What Makes A Good Centerpiece Light ?

Hello i was just wondering what you all use as a centerpiece, currently i use an moonflower type thing, not very classy i know, but wishing to upgrade to maybe the Acme CTL-6 250watt MSD Centerpiece Fixture, do you think the light would be suitable for mobile disco, has anyone heard of reviews about this fixture, cheers for now damo

This seems quite an expensive centerpiece. It seems like the effect is an upgraded version of your double derby and for a light without DMX for £449 seems an awful lot. Then the bulbs cost around £80! So this is a pricey light to buy never mind maintain! This seems very expensive for what it is and I'm sure that you could find something a lot cheaper that produces a better effect like the MiracLED or InvincibLED or MarveLED or ImpossiLED. These lighting effects cost around £120 and should last an awful long time, so you won’t be paying £80 every time the bulb goes.
A centerpiece light should be a striking effect that displays and shows off your rig. It is probably the light that will be on the most and the one that people notice. It should be capable of different effects that create stunning shows that just flow. Also I always think the centerpiece light shouldn’t weigh a lot as not to strain your goalpost?

Its designed to be bolted to a ceiling as its an instalation fixture, not really for mobiles.
An Acme MiracLED or a Martin EFX 500/600 are very popular centre pieces.

I don't think I would use a laser as a centerpiece, I think your centre light is the one that wants to be on most of the time with your other lights changing around to complement it, my laser is bolted on top and used in short bursts.
I use an Impossibled or a mirror ball or an LED panel as my centre light depends on the function.

I usually use all the other lights for most of the night, & then just put the lasers on for the last hour. It's quite good because the crowd think they've seen everything then they get hit with something new.

I use a 900Watt Vorma, it is very powerful and spreads light around a large venue. It is a triple Derby type light.

Was doing wedding photography on friday and the DJ at the reception used one of those. Got to admit very impressive light for the price and would fill most rooms. Only problem I found was the 'dazzle factor' which is something I am funny about. I hate lights that dazzle the crowd if they look towards you.

Me too, I used to use a 'double derby' type light but (a) it can dazzle quite a bit (600W) and (b) bulbs cost a fortune (It's currently gathering dust awaiting new bulbs however I doubt I'll ever use it again)
