Ok, so anybody who went to DJSN will know how loud and annoying the subwoofers were (title name). If you have not heard or seen these then just google them and have a look for yourself.

Now, apart from them being loud, you have to admit that the sound was being repoduced all over the venue, which I thought was good.

What do you lot think of this subwoofer??? I know they are budget brand but if they can produce that amount of power from a 12" subwoofer then I may just look in to it. Just looking for other peoples opinions. :)

Well basically I don't feel like my bd sub 15 is up to the mark. When I did a gig for a school prom It felt like there was no bass at all. Everything was setup correctly and so on.

I know I had more than enough power for the gig but it still didnt sound right.

Last night I went out clubbing (my clubbing, tell me about it, lol) with my other half and her friends. One of the clubs as folded horn subs and you could hear the bass all over the venue. We then went to another club and the bass was toilet. They were using the large dual 18" EV subs (i think). When you stand in front of them the bass was really pounding but as soon as you wlak away you could not hear it at all.

I know this all depends on the room size and the amount of people but tbh both venues were about the same size with the same amount of people.

Why would you need some of these for an average gig though? For an 18th or a big hall etc, I can understand it, but not for your average mobile gig.

Have a Google for long throw bins.

For only a small sub, it does sound good. Going as low as 38hz is impressive from a 12" driver, and if your looking for a compact unit, your getting it with this. We've got 4 different rigs coming in for a demo day with Intimidation where they use around 12kw, and it sounds excellent.
There are loads of other subs around though, for deep notes, you want something that'll go to around 32hz really, so look at some 18" bins too (if space isn't a problem).

well i thought the void speakers at plasa last year 100 times better
the speakers at djsn where to loud and the guy was just showing off.
i dont think you need bass that is in your face must admit i like a more suttle bass.
there speakers sounded ok when you were near them but away from the stand it sounded like world war 3.
but then again acustics of the room might not of been good

Void are loads better, but then the price is too :( Everyones got a budget to work too.
I've just gone all active, and had to buy a cheap active sub until the ones want come in, and was worried what ever I chose would be poor, but for an RRP of £399 I am mighty impressed with the Wharfedale Titan 15 sub, so some budget ranges, to give a good impression.

I have been searching about this since last week. :o :)

I came across this a few days ago - Link (http://forums.eaw.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=000762)

From post 5 I think its say that a long throw suba are giving an equal volume for over distance. This can be used for indoors or out doors.

It also says that a folded horn gives less SPL from near to far. I take it that spl "would" be the same where ever in the room you go than if you had a bass reflex cab, where if you stand in front its loud and if you move 10ft back its not so loud???

At the moment space is an issue. I will be buying a trailer but this can only be bought when our drive is finished. Thinking about it, I think the 12" would be better as it would be faster than a 15" or 18". As Much as I like my bass, I still prefer to have the music punchy than just boomy.

I agree that they were showing off then but then again I have never seen a 12" folded horn so I guess its somthing to be proud off.

I was only looking at getting 2 cabs anyway. They are about the same size as a mackie 1501 or dh sub 15 (same size cabs) but I know that the sin bins will project the bass a lot better.

To be honest unless your doing very large halls regular they will spend more time in the back of the van.
In smaller places you just dont need the range they throw.

They are very good for the price. Less than £300 a cab, and 650w for a 12" cab?

Im surprised that your having trouble with your DB sub 15 mine really ponuds out the bass. Have you set the crossover right? Or have you tried boosting on the eq.
I used just one db sub with 2 mackie tops on saterday with a croud of about 250 - 300 people. Had no problem at all it sounded very bassey and when it got louder later on had plenty of power to spare. Will post pics of room I was in later so you can judge . May take a ehile though as my camera is out of power so have to charge first.

At the moment its either 2x sinbins or 1x Looney Bin (http://www.proaudioparts.co.uk/looneybin.asp). These were originally designed by the owner of void so you know they are going to be good. The looney bin has been re-designed so its 3db louder and goes down a few more Hz down below. :D:D:D

If possible that would be great. I feel like I either don't have enough power or I'm still not setting up the sub correctly.

At the moment I have the sub set to 80hz crossover. This is so you get the punch from the mackie tops and you get the deep bass from the sub 15.

A lot of the time I am getting bookings for large halls where I need to take my sub. I admit it does fill the room but not enough. I don't like my music bass heavy but I would like to have the extra power if I do need to turn it up. :(. Most of the time I run the sub so it clips, flashing, not full beam.

You really need to have sound checks with speakers before you buy them.

A 15 inch speaker can have many parameters and while one can have terrific bass the next model might be quite different.

I have a cheapie eminence 15 inch sub which I built the enclosure for and I never need any extra bass on the bass control.

The size of the enclosure can affect the bass, if it is too small you can lose bass.

Here's my two pennorth. Obviously different cabs have different characteristics. With my small tops only, I tend to have the bass well up, yet drop a pair of the big ones under, and I pull almost all the Bass off! Is space so much of a problem that you can't use two? I'm surprised if you can't get enough bass.

OK, take the amps out of your RCF cabs John. How much would they be without them? Not much off £600 a pair I'll bet.

Well at the moment I am having to use my focus. We are currently having a 3 car drive put on the front of the house but this is taking longer because they are putting re-bar in it. lol.

When this is all done I will be buying a trailer. Only when I get this trailer I can then be able to take more gear and back up equipment aswell. I could fit 2 subs in my car but that means I would loose space for lighting.

Maby I need to look at other led lighting that is much smaller. . Anyway. Moving on. lol.

Try it at 120Hz. Not all tracks have bass below 80Hz - but most have it at 120Hz.

I run my rig (same as Spin's) with everything in the green, flat EQ down the bottom end, Mackies at 12 O'clock volume with Low Cut button in (which rolls 'em off at 75 Hz). Had no 'Turnipp Upp Mate' comments this year so far and very rarely have had it all flat out.

Twin 18"'s are all well and good until you arrive at a venue with stairs and without a roadie... :D

Already tryed that and the sub was clipping more at 120hz as the sub was working harder.

You say that you run 120hz xover. You also say that you roll off the tops at 75hz. If the sub is set at 120 then the tops will only wrok from 120 and upwards. Correct me if I am wrong.

What level do you have it on the sub??? You have Mono, stereo or what ever you fancy setting. lol.

I have mine set at 100hz simply as a trade off between the good mid and top of the mackies and the sub able to handle all the heavy work at the bottom end.
Maybe you are losing signal somewhere else in the chain? I know when I changed my mixer from a cm100 to a cm200fx i seemed to lose bass and had to reset my EQ.

Losing signal  , i hope not. I use Denon X900 Mixer and the Denon HD2500 with the dn-4500 cd draws:D .

All the leads are all inmworking order as these are check by a cable tester before ever gig I go to.

I have it on stereo setting (2 fullrange inputs), volume dial around to the appropriate mark (would be about 7 or 8 if it were a regular calibrated dial).

I also run the tops full range with the Low Cut button in; so I get 120Hz and down from the sub, 75Hz and up from the tops - which means I am getting 100Hz from both.

When I tried running tops from the hi-pass on the sub, it did make the Mackies sound harsh and tinny, hence why they are run full range. All this was set up by a sound enginer in my local shop to cure my 'lack of bass' problem - you could try taking it along and see if they have any ideas if the above doesn't work.

I might give that a go later. I have a sub out on my mixer but its a 1/4 jack so would need to make up a lead for that. If I still like the bass is not all that then I need to look at bigger or louder subs.

I seem to get a lot of bookings from people who book large rooms. Large rooms means large sound to fill. :(.

Ok this is what happened.

I ran the mackie tops from the master out on the mixer and run the sud from the Booth output. This now gives me control over the sub on the mixer instead of going to the back of the sub to either turn it up or down.

I pressed thje 75hz roll off on the mackies and it sounds ok.

I tryed the 100hz xover on the sub and i didnt like it at all. I went back to 80hz and it sounded much better.

Just need to test it out in a gig situation really to get a true sound. I don't think having the gear setup in your lounge counts at all. lol

If I still think i need more power then I will have to look at other subs. I still think that a folded horn sub is the way to go in my opinion. I don't want vega's as they are massive and quite heavy so would need to look else where. So far it could be the sinbin's but need to see more reviews on then and hear them in person with out being blasted away like at DJSN. :bang:
