DJs who hold a ProDub Licence can now have their UK-Disco advert updated to highlight their licence status. The ProDub Licence permits DJs to COPY their legally-owned music onto a different format for use in a professional or semi-professional working capacity.

Handled in the same way that PAT and PLI reviews are managed, advertisers can now upload their ProDub PDF certificate for validation.

For the next 10 days (until 15 August), UK-Disco will be accepting evidence of ProDub via e-mail at no charge for ALL advertisers. Submitting evidence via e-mail usually carries a small admin fee due to the additional workload it generates. Simply e-mail your ProDub certificate to us and once verified, we'll update your listing.

That's all fine and dandy, but somewhat prejudicial to those of us that prefer to remain original CD only, is it possible for us to be marked in such a way as to not make the public think that we are in some way less legal?

I suggest everyone else does something similar.

Like a certificate or something saying you 'the disco service' dont require a produb license?

Does this not mean that people who have bought the original CD are being forced to pay again? It also looks as though it might send digital dj's back to cd after all what decent dj has got less than 5000 tracks on his hard drive!

then you can go out and buy a laptop the next day :D :D lets not start the whole produb thing again , im sure uk-disco will have a page telling users exactly what the licence is and who needs it.

having a you dont need this certificate is not the answer ..... now i dont know what is but it aint that !!

if you have a licence send your details if not dont ... there is nothing to stop you putting a disclaimer on your listings ie. we only use original cd's and therefore do not require the new produb licence.

Shame the whole exemption certificate system was abandonded really.. would have solved it, as you'd still have something to upload to UK Disco.

At least you can make up your own compilation discs etc. if you have a ProDub licence, plus you never know when you might want to dabble in a bit of digital DJing!

The "How big is your hard drive" willy waving competition actually has no bearing on how good or bad a DJ you are.

Having experienced the shabby musical knowledge of DJs in meetings and on forums, having 30,000 tracks is a total waste of time if you haven't a clue what 25000 actually sound like!

I also have quite a few album tracks, (i.e. not the released singles) which I can't ever see me playing.

I reckon I could wittle it down to 5,000 (or 4,999 to be more precise) easily.

I am looking at the text again to see if any amendments should be made to make the circumstances when this is required very clear and emphasise the fact that not all DJs will require this certificate.

The Produb could be the start of how small is your hard drive. :D I only need a 40 gig hard drive or I can fit my whole nights playlist onto a pen drive :D

Looks like a lot have gone for the keep it under 5,000 licence. That's still a lot of tracks, Imagine if that was vinyl your were carrying about :eek:

I've gone for the 10,000 for that extra flexibility as I was around the 7,000 track mark so gives space for the rest of the year.

Just got an email from UK Disco saying about how DJs with pro-dub will be identified with highlighted listings etc. Thing is I don't need a pro-dub licence. I take all my music from napster and don't change the format in any way. My karaoke work is all done using CD+G, all original etc. I just feel a little miffed that others who have pro-dub will be highlighted and the problem is that people who do not understand it will not realise that you only need it depending on the way you work.

this is totally outrageous, how an earth can people have their listing highlighted if they have a pro dub, license, what about us lot who use vinyls and cds, are we being shoved to the back being classed as second class djs.

I might have the "beasty computer" and the software but am really thinking hard if to move or not just yet.

maybe i should have a listing on here and have it highlighted because i have 5million PLI, personaly i think this is one big CON !!!

I wouldn't worry about it, as there will be hardly ANY highlighted listings anyway (by the looks of the number of people who have purchased this licence so far).

Presumably all the rest have just become cowboys, as they are now operating without the appropriate licence, unless of course they never copy or format shift any of their music...which is highly unlikely!

I got this email as well, so uploaded my ProDub licence, which is for 15000 to 20000 tracks.

I needed to cover my karaoke collection as well as music collection.

I haven't yet gone digital for live performances, but in the process, as soon as I sort out the hardware and software.
