Enquiries gone very quiet

Hello just wondered is it me or have you noticed that enquiries have gone very quiet ?

If you'd asked two weeks ago I'd have said they'd practically died! But since last Thursday I've had 5 enquiries and got 2 confirmed bookings from them - one an engagement party next month and a wedding for next May.

Not suprising really as most people concentrating on holidays. I often find this time of year fairly quiet for enquiries.

Was quiet till start of the week had 5 late enquires 1 for next year , turned into 4 confirmed bookings so im happy :)

It's the usual thing this time of year although I have had a fair few enquiries. It's the summer holidays for a lot of people but the enquiries will pick up when they are over as people start to think about christmas etc..

It is holiday time for the school kids so most people are away.
It should get busy again when they go back and everyone gets wed.

Enquiries have certainly gone very quiet, but luckily for those of us in 'Holiday' regions the workload is very healthy. ;)

I've been taking virtually one enquiry a day recently, as well as a booking yesterday, so it's no quieter than normal here.

A friend who used to have a shop there tells me Leeds Town centre is pretty dead for trade---sadly a knock on effect from the general slowdown in THE economy.

None of which helps any of us.

To be honest i would say yes it has been a bit quiet on the enquiry side recently.Especially with my listing on uk disco.

Any enquiries that i have been getting dates for recently i am already booked out that night

I hardly get anything off Uk-Disco these days, There is only cheap work coming from there.

I've had a quite a few third party enquires come through from UK-D, some for next year, but also some for in the next few weeks.

Enquiries are low for me, but I've had 2 calls in 2 weeks for clients that have been let down by the DJ they booked. I'm glad I was able to help them. :)

It's always quieter on the enquiries front at this time of year, & every year at this time we get the same threads asking the same thing.

People are more concerned with going on their holidays at this time of year, not booking discos.

2 of 'how much is yer disco' and one decent enquiry which I booked.

I would think that your December bookings will be safe Theo. People will be so ready for a Christmas ho-down after a stressful year of no money. Plus, most Christmas dos are financed from acumulated cash (remember that stuff) and most companies that have a Christmas party would be very unlikely to cancel - bosses would be more out of favour than they already are!!!

I think Theo means those gigs that rely on ticket sales, ALWAYS a problem area.

I got cancelled on the 4th July American Independence Day for this very reason.

Same will apply to NYE.

You need to protect yourself with cancellation clauses otherwise you will get striped :eek:

July was the quietest month for enquiries this year, though I still converted the same amount as other months.. so can't complain really. It does seem to have picked up again now we're into August though, still have those 3 Fridays free though, but took another Sunday disco booking this evening, a LED uplighting Job for a Sunday yesterday and got a possible PA hire on one of the Saturday afternoons so that'll keep things ticking along nicely :)

September is mad though, got 17 discos booked now and another possible uplighting job.

Good for you. Have thought about extending my cancellation clause for the Cristmas/NYE period. Already been paid a chunk for NYE and the gig is very safe. Same place as last year and it's not a ticket event.

No, it's not just olympics, although this may have contributed. This annual downturn has been deepening for the last 3 - 4 weeks, and has yet to start to rise. Holiday season is my explanation. :)

I was expecting a quiet week at my pub quizzes last week for that very reason, but it turned out to be one of my busiest weeks of the year.

In fact my Tuesday quiz was the busiest it's been for over 3 years!

The reason I mentioned it was to show that one or two earlier suggestions that the reason for less enquiries at the moment is due to lots of people being away may not be true.

However, the answer to your question is YES.

I end up with a fair few disco bookings from regular quiz night people, and DID have one such enquiry last week!

indeed alot of people holiday late july early august that said i have passed 4 gigs on to mr. brown for next year in the last 2 days . i do find normally though june is good for enquiries as is late september through october.

Was talking to the lead singer of a well known and popular local band a couple of weeks ago (who also sends disco work my way whenever he can) and he says even the band are quiet compared to recent years.

I guess the dreaded 'credit crunch' is having an affect on entertainment. Luckily I have a residency in a pub I do whenever I'm not out with the mobile on a Saturday night. Was there Saturday past and it was busy, so maybe it's just the mobile/private party side of things that are a bit quiet just now?

Got a wedding fayre coming up in October, so maybe next year will be busier but as always... who knows!

The paper says today in a Halifax Home insurance poll nearly two thirds of people are not going out on Saturday nights--staying at home with family or friends instead of spending in bars, clubs and restaurants.

Maybe we will be in for a load of "house parties" in semis and terraced houses---this happened in the 70s-- I recall doing some of them:D :D :D

Then again nowadays the world and his wife have an I pod !
