Small external hard drive problem

If I remember correctly Tony said that when you put the new v1400 firmware on you need to format your external hard drive:confused:

Well I did this and re-formated it as NTFS. Well the denon cannot find the drive at all. All that happens is that the usb flashes twice on the screen and thats is.

IS there going to be a problem If I re-formated it again as FAT32??? I know that this means the denon hd2500 can write data but I guess this is a good idea as you can then set memo's on the external hard drive.

Also just to add, while I was at it I formated the internal hard drive following the manual and have gained 6gb back again. lol. Who knows where it went. lol.


Anyway, any advice guys (as I don't know any gals who use a denon hd2500 yet. lol :o )

As I still have the flight case out I think Ill format it now. I guess the hard drive will work on the denon now. :mad: :(

That's the unexpected bonus of using NTFS. I was originally hoping to use FAT32, but didn't bother, and was delighted to find that with being read only, I couldn't FUBAR it. :D :D

The ability to save the point you want the track to start at & not have to find it again each & every time you play that track, say from the 1 2 3 4 on Sex Machine or where the bass or drums kick in on Club Tropicana or Livin' on a prayer for example.

Everything is sorted. I love using it now. Nice and easy to use. Just need to wait till the warrenty runs out so I can fit a 160gb hard drive.

I have an annotation method which involves square brackets after the song name for example [LI30] means 'long intro 30 seconds' or [SL Beyonce] for 'sounds like Beyonce'.

Correct--its a reminder. As the track title scrolls across you get a message.

I often include other notes like "original" or "remix" to identify the tracks.

Unless I'm being more obtuse than usual, I'd suspect that the saving is internal to the Denon, rather than external to the HD. You can do that with a Cortex in FAT32, but you can also do unwanted things to it, I'm settling for the safety first scenario. ;) ;)

Load track--start--stop at required number of seconds--takes away the boredom of being a digital DJ which Rob seems to be suffering from

I think if you are using the external hard drive then It should save it on there, because when you plug in a new hd it has to create a folder so it can work on the denon. In this folder it can save playlists and all that stuff. So I reakon it would save on the external hard drive.

On either the internal or external HD actually saved to the MP3 file, because Denon uses FAT32 so you can do that.

And if the Cortex was running FAT32 it can do that just as well as the Denon! I've pointed this out at least twice in this thread alone. Does nobody actually read what's posted before replying ? :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

With the very greatest of respect ( and it was nice to meet you and the lovely Angela at DJSN ) I think that got lost in translation somewhere. :D
Edit: And I was pointing out that if you run NTFS, you have great difficulty in fouling the system up beyond all recovery. As someone with a distinction in that area, I'll go for safety. The new system allows me enough time to cue tracks up. ;) :D :D ( On a good night, I've been known to manage that with CD's! :eek: )
