Christmas & New Years Eve

Anyone got any of these dates yet. I've just secured a NYE disco for £450. There's a live band as well, so I'll only be playing for a few hours (3 max). Finishes at 12:30. Easy money :D

We've been provisionally covered for at least 8 dates in December (by our agent) expecting confirmation over the next week or two...would like at least 10...not sure about new years yet...

I was booked personally last christmas and new years eve for this year too. It has happened like that for the past two years now. I have also turned down 3 enquiries for new years eve too.

Due to the fact that 90% of my advertising is aimed at the wedding market, most of my December work (including Christmas & new Years eves) is done for my friend's agency.

Unfortunately he charges less than me and obviously takes a commission, so I end up with a lot less money than I get from my own bookings.

Therefore, for a change I've decided to take this December off from discos (unless I get any of my own bookings, which is unlikely).

The best thing about this will be having the opportunity to spend NYE with my family & being able to have a few drinks...for the first time in over 20 years, and It's something I'm really looking forward to.

i have got x-mas eve at £150.00 and Nye at £150.00 same place had same place for 3 years now. its full of mainly older people and its a eazy night i get to play lots of northan soul and motown and the cheezy party muisc so it all good. :]

I don't do christmas eve and still have 1 rig free at new year. December is fairly quiet at the moments apart form some weddings. I try not to take on residencies so do not get as many as most over the christmas period.

why sell yourself so cheap for new years, for new years i wouldnt go below the £300 mark.

i've done the same venue the last few new yrs eve's, and have even turned down better paid work in favour, because he gets me a lift to and from the venue, has a live band on, free drinks all night (he makes me drink)...and he makes my wife come along and gets her drunk too!!

i feel i should add this is a local pub party type night.

its hard around sheffield to make much more but i know there no trouble. i would like a different crowed with more of a range of people. but its hard.

I do the same place and they know that they are getting a good deal because people pack the place out when I am on there. That isn't meant to sound egotistical at all, it's a fact. I have done the last 3 christmas eve and new years eve nights there. Before that they didn't really have anything on and it was mediocre...I was there as a punter on both nights.

I'm not really one for blurting out prices but I will this time round. Christmas Eve is £350.00 (8pm - 1am) and New Years Eve is £450.00 (8pm - 2am). I have been offered more money for both nights elsewhere but I am very comfortable where I am at this particular venue and I know everyone too. If I said the venue were a bit pleasantly shocked at those prices then it would be an understatement but I told them that those prices would stick as they give me work all year round and it's appreciated.

I am also doing a Boxing Day Disco and Quiz there too at £250.00 (8pm - Midnight).

I've been advertising avaliabilty for Christmas dates for months, but only have one Wedding booked in! I'll get NYE and couple of party nights from a regular venue though.. and I seem to remember everything booking last minute last year too.. so not too worried yet :)

I would only do the venue over the road from me so my dad can enjoy him self with the rest of the family at one there partys and I can just leave my gear there safely and go over to the party :beer1: :beer1: :D

Xmas Eve is no lower then £300 for 4hours and then if longer will charge more.

Maybe it's the area where you live that doesn't command those prices but where I am it's more or less the going rate and also, it's how you sell yourself and the quality you give. I have had people saying to me that they thought I would be more and that they would pay more too, not only that...they have paid more in the past and not had half the quality.

Not so much getting the presents in place but getting the :Censored: packaging removed, fitting the batteries an working out how they work. All before the youngster gets up an 'daft o'clock' and shows you in a couple of seconds how everything works. :D :D .

Lady: Hi I'm looking for a disco for NYE
Me: I'm available at the moment, where is it at?

Me: And is it just a party or a special occasion?
Lady: It's a 30th birthday party and we're having a live band too so you'll only be playing for around 3 hours.
Me: Ok but with it being NYE it will obviously cost a bit more than normal.
Lady: Yes I understand that, so from 8 til half 12 how much would that be.

Me: It would be £450, is that the kind of budget you were looking at.
Lady: It's a bit more than I was hoping for but can I provisionally book you.
Me: Yes [explained about booking pack etc] thank you very much.


5 days later received booking fee cheque for £150 :D

Yes it is, I did speculate that on the phone and it's also in my terms & conditions (along with cancellation fees) which she has signed and returned with the cheque. :D

I would rather keep to a reasonable price working at a venue that gives me about 60% of my bookings throuout the year.Thats the point that i am making.

I don't do favours for regular clients. Last year I agreed to do xmas eve for £150 for the landlord at my local residency, he cancelled it 2 days before due to 'cut backs'. As we had no contract I didn't have a leg to stand on. And before you all say I should have had a contract, I suggested it to him and he siad he wouldn't sign it anyway.

Basically, as soon as I can afford to get out or find another residency I'll tell him what I think of him. Until then, I still like the regular work even if it is only a couple of times a month. I take 'other' bookings as priority and always arrange cover for this.

So, no more favours!!!

I have 3 bookings at the moment, 2 of which are regular clients and they are £650+vat. I'm still not sure what your point is? I do discount one of the Hotels fairly well in December, as they give me in excess of 20 bookings duing the month and probably are my biggest client in terms of recommendations.
