R.I.P Isaac Hayes (Underrated funk/soul brother, voice of a cartoon icon & part time guest star of the Rockford Files)

Am I only that's a bit annoyed that most of the coverage is referring to him as Chef? I mean, he only wrote one of the most iconic pieces of funk, ever, and a Movie theme, to boot. Never mind that he took Burt Bacharach's 'Walk on By' and made it seriously cool, and that 'Hot-Buttered Soul' is one of the truly great albums of the time. Sheesh!

Funny that, I thought I was the only one who had done it.

I've not heard anything other than a passing reference to Chef anywhere else.

Yeah I saw it on the web this morning. He is/was my favourite recording artiste and I bought all of his albums. Truly a genius of soul his contribution to music and the black civil rights movement in the USA was immense. I saw him perform a couple of times and got to meet him although not under the best of circumstances as I was working for Polydor at the time and he was unhappy with the label. If you have never listened to the album "Hot Buttered Soul" then you should.

All initial BBC and ITV mentions of his death (that I saw) made reference to Chef ahead of Shaft.

I played 'Shaft' and 'Disco COnnection' last night at my holiday camp residency after requests for Isaac Hayes.

Best two songs I played all night...lol

Well it is more recent.

I've not seen any mention of his recurring character Gandolph Fitch in the Rockford Files though
