American DJ Sparkle LED (review)

Hello

Just purchased two of these, one for each end of the overhead bar. I used to work with a mirrorball/white spotlight combo years ago when I worked for someone else and I've toyed with the idea of a mirrorball again, but never really did anything about it. After all, I think there's nothing classier than a simple mirrorball-type effect, especially at the start of a night (bridal waltz especially)

Now these babies are dead simple. You plug em in, and the white led slowly rotates or stays static. No DMX, no sound to light, and for me they're a nice alternative to the mirrorball/spotlight combo, quite cheap too.

Tried them out at a wedding last weekend in a decent sized function room and they were dead bright, amazing for a 3w LED.

As LED seems to be the way things are all going I just thought I'd let everyone else know what they were like. Anyone else bought one?

Must admit--it looks a useful addition to the lighting if like me you dont want to muck about setting up an actual mirror ball.;)

these are DMX controllable and go to music if required.

im definitely interested in one of these or the sparkle, but have yet to see one in action.

I saw the Starball demo'd the other day and thought it was rubbish without smoke. Very nice beams with smoke though, but the dots it projected were fairly blurry too compared to a mirrorball.

Well Pardon me for not being 100% sure about posting links to suppliers on here, what with the rules about not selling stuff on here I just wanted to play it safe, which if Soundtracker had put my whole PM on here you would have seen it said exactly that! So forgive me, I'm only on 50 posts and just wanted to play it safe. I'll know better next time! :) :P

ANYWAY...

I considered the Starball too, but think the beam is better focussed with the Sparkle, having run two of them crossed over pointed to the dancefloor gave a great effect, which I'm not sure the Starball would. I also don't currently have any lights running DMX, so I'm still in the 'plug 'n' play' camp!

Ahhhhh...that's where you're wrong, my good man!

The problem is not with flash drives, but with ALL drives, and my ipods don't use a flash drive anyway...they use a hard drive.

Having posted on the Numark forum & also searched, I've learnt that this is a problem that many people have had with the D2...whether using flash drives, ipods or massive external hard drives.

Hopefully the Numark experts will be able to pinpoint the problem & produce a fix.

In a way, I don't feel so bad now, as I know the fault it not with my ipod or my D2 in particular...if that makes sense?

With all due respect, I wasn't searching the forum to try & prove you wrong at all, Darren.

When I saw your previous post saying you'd had no problems with the firmware update, I thought I remembered you HAD mentioned an issue you had with the firmware on a previous thread (along with many others!), so I did a quick re-read of the thread in question to see if my memory served me correctly.

I'm sure you'd also mention it if I said something on a particular subject & you remembered me saying something different in a previous thread.

Not that fast, the American DJ promo video I posted shows the speed but it's a nice speed for, say, a bridal waltz/first dance.

Maybe a speed control would have been a good addition but I suppose they're designed to be simple and cheap so perhaps it wasn't an option.

You do have the option of making them static, but I don't know if I'll ever have them that way to be honest. :)
