.............people getting the hang of quotes on this forum???

It's not rocket science

If you quote from one single post use the button marked quote with the paper & quill icon (the middle button at the bottom right of posts)

If you wish to quote from 2 or more posts use the multi quote button (that's the one with the sheet of paper icon with "+ on it)

To insure that it shows as a quote once you have posted, make sure it finishes [/QUOTE] & starts [QUOTE=name of the preson you are quoting ; & some numbers] this will make it appear in one of those pale blue grey boxes. Please note also that the QUOTE & /QUOTE bit should be in caps

It also means that it doesn't appear to be part of your own post like it would if you just re-type or copy & paste the piece you want to quote &just put " at either end. I've seen this done & each time I've initially thought it was refering to a verbal conversation, until I realised that I'd just read the bit between the quotatioin marks in a previous post.

& finally.....................



IF YOU ARE QUOTING FROM A LONG POST & YOU ONLY WANT TO REFER TO A SHORT PART OF IT, DELETE THE REST OF THE POST THAT YOU ARE QUOTING SO THAT ONLY THE RELEVANT BIT APPEARS IN YOUR QUOTE!

It's in CAPS when you make the quote, some forums it has to be, I assumed that it had to be (as that was what it came up as). In any case it doesn't hurt to have them as caps.

My point was if you edit the quote make sure it has everything needed between the [] at the beginning & end.

& in any case it's not just the noobs, one or two of the worst offenders are senior members (good job I spotted the typo there, I put ate instead of are :sj:)

Actually, mine was a rather pointless post which didn't have to be said....when I first made it I quoted Steve incorrectly (including his whole post) for comedy effect.....

Then I remembered it was Steve so thought better if it :)
