New Smoke machine Help...

hi again guys,
more advice needed, ive got the best part of £100 to spend on a new smoke machine, i need one that is reliable, has a fairly quick startup time and can pump a decent amount of smoke for mobile discos, and also a good remote control system, maybe wireless (obviously the easier to transport around the better)

any recommendations or advice is greatly appreciated :)
what smoke machine does everybody else have?

I use a vivid machine, the unit is cheap and lasts well. And using a good fluid can fill a room with smoke in seconds.

dont go with cheap nasty smoke machines, i use martin, always have always will with my smoke machines, some of the cheaper ones need to heat up longer and cant pump long enough before having to heat back up agian, and they leak, take alook at the martin magnum 550 , i think thats £100 and under, and made by a very good company, cheers damian

I use the zoom smoke machine it has a good heat up time and also it comes with the wireless remote control.

I have the Martin Magnum 650. Great piece of kit if its your first smoke machine, like me.


Have you had a look at haze machine. Might be better than a smoke machine. This is what I am looking at but it also must have DMX as I have been playing with light jocky.

I can recommend the Vivid machines - i think theyre available on sale in maplins for £30 at the moment with remote control.
i think you can buy optional wireless remote or one with a timer on, so theres no need to keep 'smoking' the room.
they heat up quick and blast out quite a distance.
superb value for money - much better than the chauvet hurricane 650 i used to have.

I have to say I prefer hazers as they tend to upset the punters less. You can get an ACME fazer for around £100 and just leave it go on a timer

so whats the real differences between haze & smoke machines?
will both be as effective with showing off lighting effects?

i believe

smoke machines create thick white smoke, wheres haze machine gives out thinner haze which can be seen when light strikes off it.

I would personally take alook at a haze machine, How many venues is there around your area that will let you use a smoke machine?
There is only the church and community halls near me that you can use a smoke machine but even some of these aren't allowing them, Hazers can be alot more discreet and you dont have to ask the venue if you can use them if you are sensible with them.

I just use a cheap Soundlab smoke machine £35-ish

It does take a while to warm up and smells a bit when in the vehicle.

But it does put out a good volume of smoke and seems to last quite a while before it needs to heat up again.

Its an intersting decision as a lot of venues won't allow smoke machines or hazers due to fire alarms. I prefer hazers as they take a lot less effort and can be left on a timer and you don't get the huge splurge of smoke that a lot of people don't like

I agree with that, just put your hazer under a table and out of sight, gently puffing evry other minute or 2.
