Playlists eh?

I use these all the time but I got a shock today--I asked for Saturdays Wedding listing--I got a list approaching 500 tunes :eek: :eek: :eek:

No I wont list them;)

They said you wont be able to play all these---errr no---so play a few from each genre---

Im not willy waving here---just wondered if this is a record:D :D :D

Im playing in the the bizarre Inflatable Church for the gig---so I guess the whole event is just plain extreme and Crazy--I guess ill fit in well

Funnily enough I did get a spreadsheet today from a B&G for a gig in December with in excess of 2,500 songs on it...

Followed shortly afterwards by an email explaining that this was a dump of the Gs iPod and only the 200 or so songs with a '1' in the left hand column were the ones they want playing at their 3-ish hour long gig :o

I always encourage the bride & groom to select a few tracks that they would like played,but by the sounds of it this couple have taken it a bit far!

I usually ask the client if they'd like me to send an 'advance request form' with the other documents, but the most I've ever had back was about 20 tracks. This is a good amount though, acting as a good guide without dictating too much.

I am finding as time goes on people want more control over what the DJ plays.
At one time I just took a few requests but these days the clients are handing me playlists and some are quite long.

Although not quite as bad, I had something similar for my wedding last Friday.

It was a two hour gig, for which they sent me a list of 180 requests.....which is probably about ten hours worth!

I would have had to cut them down an awful lot!

I decided to use a bit of common sense, so I phoned them to point out the problem & to suggest they gave me 20-30 "must plays" with me selecting the rest of the music from their list.

They agreed, so that's exactly what happened, and it was a fantastic gig, so problem solved!

He just plugged it in and let it play.

I never thought to ask if he had a produb license !

Thats nothing...at my gigs it's ME who supplies the ipod containing all the music!

I find most are good and just give an idea of favourite songs. But some lose the plot...

HE doesnt need one as it is a private party and since he is not getting paid it is domestic use.

Did he actually hire you as a DJ and then supply, not only the playlist but the music aswell? Did you have to sort the tracks from his ipod and be a DJ or just hit play?

He said he didnt want a DJ or a Dj talking all night and just wanted to hire the gear. I said that I would have to come along just to keep an eye on teh gear. I got there and setup and he plugged in his IPOd and ran it between himself and the best man. I just looked after the lights and smoke machine.
