1&2 there are better available, for no greater cost. 3 is good, 4 I can't say, 5 is fine, 6 I use, and it's fine, 7 should be good, but I haven't seen a track listing.

I wouldnt have brought the four light sequencer and I would have brought the 400w prosound speakers instead.


Have you forgot an amp or do you already have one?

Maybe it would have been more beneficial to ask for people's opinons on the gear BEFORE you bought it.

A point which also occurred to me. There's a lot of knowledge and experience on here, and it seems foolish not to avail yourself of it. Perceived wisdom would definitely recommend not using Maplins as your main supplier :eek:

Before I discovered this wonderful site, around 8 months ago, I was like you and potentially made one of the biggest mistakes of my 15 year old life-walking into a maplins shop!

Disappointment-trouble-help that never worked-and major let down.

I spent around £400 at maplins last year and purchased the 15inch 500wat speakers and a 1500wat amp. (or so that’s what they called it)

I then signed onto this website to be told how awful and what a waste of time maplins was. Being "Mr. know it all" I didn't listen, as they were working fine at that moment in time. A month later, I had to swap the amp 3 times, speakers 3 times, and the whole system failed on 3 gigs (including giving the member of the public an electric shock when they picked up the maplins microphone)

I soon became tired and fed up off turning up to each gig tired and feeling “on edge" all night as the rubbish system was unpredictable!

The 500wat version took a bit off kicking but couldn’t cope, so on two occasions the base drive went!

In the end the problems became endless and Maplins had to apologize and swap my third pro sound amp for a Newmark dimension. I then purchased another 2k American Audio and some decent class D speakers. I still use my third pair of maplins speakers for the vocals, but that’s all. If you can take the buggers back to the shop where they belong do it NOW!

If not then make do with what you have, but if you are planning on doing gigs with audiences larger than 50+ you will have to invest in so more robust gear-like class D.

Hate to put a damper on things, but if you can swap or get your money back-please do!

Oh and the numark cd player-I brought it from maplins-guess what, went back twice as the right side cd drawer wouldn’t open after a few weeks! The one on display in the shop didn’t even work! The second one they gave me was from a fresh batch from their warehouse-but still didn’t work!
Let me know how you get on, and what you decide to do. In regards to the lights you got yourself a good deal!!

The Maplin speakers look a bit small if they are the ones I saw in their shop.
Fine for a pub maybe but a large club or hall and they will be lacking.

The CD player/mixer looks good for space saving, I use seperate items and paid less than that for a NuMark CD player and a Peavey mixer.

The four way party lite is a bit amateur in my humble opinion and a bit 70's.

You would be as well listening to some of the pro DJ's on here for gear.

My experience of buying gear from Maplin is buying it then finding it wasnt loud enough, thats speakers and amps.

In the end I built my own loudspeakers boxes and bought in good make efficient drivers off ebay new.

I also designed and built my own amps so I know what is in them.
Makes it easier to repair and source components, not that any have gone wrong yet on the road. Touch wood...

I don't know if they're the same brand but they sound the same. I'm referring to the ProLight speakers I use. They're passive 15" 300w units and I've been using a pair for over 2 years now and they've never let me down (although I did blow a top couple of NYE's ago but I did run them straight from cold which is not a good idea. Had my electrician sort it out and it's been great since!).

I remember when Charlie first came on here and what he's said about sums it up. But it's been a pleasure seeing him grow from taking the advice of folk on here. I couldn't recommend the advice from here enough!

i have the 1000w amp and its great (only with good speakers like peavey,makie ,jbl, class d). but i wouldn't use there speakers. my school had the package with amp and speaker and the amp blow the speakers but they got told it wouldn't be able to lol.

in the shop the speakers sound flat and horrible. i nearly once bought a pair of 15s and heard them and didn't like them and this man in shop said i got a pair of cloud 15" you can have for £40.00 so i got them instead and lasted me about 2 years.

and you cant go wrong with advice with people on hear.

nice lights i see apart from the 4 way light. do you have a stand for lights, hope their symectrical
