It wouldn't work, you would need to change the lamp holder and also a few other components in the light, Not work doing if you ask me, I'm sure there are other members on here who can explain more in-depth about your question.

nah, it wouldn't work you'll probably find that the lamp holder would get very very hot and then start melting items further down the line, as you would be trying to draw more power than the internal transformer would allow.

Oh come on let's not go down this route arguing what you call the lamp in your lights, CJ only asked a simple question and we are all starting this needless debate on Lamp Or Bulb, Personally i call them lamps but we all understood what he meant so lets not hijack his thread with a silly debate.

Straight answer then - no, it can't be done without a lot of expensive modifications.

The lamp holder will probably need to be changed - the least of your worries.
You would need a new transformer - one capable of running a 250 watt bulb is guite hefty.
You would need to incorporate a cooling fan somewhere, and if the current design doesn't use one you probably won't be able to fit one in.
Fuse ratings will need to be changed.

I'd like to replace a 24 volt 250 watt bulb with a 24 volt 100 watt one, which can be done from the electrics point of view, but I've not yet found a suitable bulb. :(

I have a set of 4 Acme Gobos which use 12v 100W lamps. I find that they are bright enough for the smaller gigs so long as they don't get drowned out by brighter effects such as 300w par 56s.

To get the best out of your effects make sure your lens' and mirrors are cleaned regularly and free from dust, fingerprints, grease etc. Learn how to maintain your effects and they will serve you well.

I've noticed that Penguins are still popular and they're only a 50w scanner effect. Saying that, I have 50w moonflowers that cost me £12.50 each. I now use them for a backdrop effect and they're really quite impressive as they're sound-responsive. They may become redundant, though, when I get my LED Par cans.

I am surprised. The company from which they came manufactured cheap and nasty effects, so I assumed being a budget range that they would be the same.

I bought a pair of Source colour changers years ago and was having trouble with addressing the dips switches and getting them to link. I found out eventually that the circuit boards had been put in the wrong way round...:bang:

Presumably a 250 watt bulb would produce more heat than a 100 watt bulb.

The unit was obviously not designed for this extra heat, which could cause serious damage to the unit, and that's without taking any other problems into account.
