Calling all trailer DJ's

Ok guys and gals,

When you fill up your trailer do you put all of your DJ gear in there or just the speakers and stands ect???


The reason I ask is I am looking in getting a trailer but need to know what you guys put in there so I can look for the right size for my needs.


I was thinking of putting all the gear in there as it would be easier to load and unload but I don't want to damage any equipment.


Any tips or advice???

tom i was looking for one for all my gear a few months back and was looking at 6x4 by 4ft high would be enough to fit all my gear in.

i wouldn't put lights or CD players in a trailler unless it was a 4 wheel one with suspension.

also make sure you have a wheel clamp beacuse people like to t-leaf them.

I used them for 20 years. Put everything in, except things like computers and hard drives. Make sure you spread the weight evenly, have items in cases or flightcases and load so that things don't move about causing damage.

Spend a couple of hours loading and reloading it, and then draw a diagram and stick it on the inside, so that if you get stuck you can refer to it.

Use bungy straps or webbing if you need to, to secure everything. Use good quality locks on the jockey wheel and also on the back.

One more tip, take the trailor to a car park at a quiet time and practise reversing.

I didn't have 4 wheels or suspension with mine and the only real problem I had was when I didn't see a speed hump, hit it at 30 and smashed the mirrors on two lighting effects. Never had a problem with a CD player.

I dont have cases for the lights because of space in the car but when i get a trailer then I will get cases. :). Good thing Im going for LED lights now. No more broken lamps. :D:D:D

I like the idea of draming a plan of how to pack it. :)

As for driving with a trailer, this is not a problem. On my old job I had to drive a LWB van with a trailer that was wider than the van and had to reverse around corners in central london. All great fun. lol. Might need to refresh my mind though. Havent done it for about 1.5 years now. lol

think he might mean gear in trailer dog in car Steve??? but if Tom has the Staffy he was talking about might actually find no dog after the gig as apparently they are one of if not the most nicked pet in the country :D :D

I have used trailers in the past, I had a huge one I converted from a window cleaners trailer for his ladders.
I put the delicate stuff in the car and the heavy solid stuff in the trailer.

In more recent years I have managed to squeeze it into a Mondeo. with the back seats folded forward.
Just invested in an estate car this week.

That is very true about stealing staffs. :(. Anyway. lol.

Hya Tom like others say stick everything in, I would cover any digital player up though so it doesn't get too cold, maybe with some kind of blanket around the case, the same with laptop/PCs and dont leave any hard drives in there as they can play up if they get below certain temps.

May also be worth getting some sponge to pack between gear.

I think it is recommended that you put the heavier things towards the front of the trailer so the main weight is towards the tow bar. Also if you have a roller shutter door make sure that stands, poles and truss etc dont fall against the shutter whilst driving, it is a pain to roll the shutter up!!

and definately practise reversing, it took me a month or so but i got really good at it in the end, prior to that I emmbaressed myself on numerous occasions at venues infront of guests trying to reverse a trailer up to some back doors to unload.....

Well i use a trailer and i will say i put everything in there when needed, speakeers, bass bins, lighting is always cased up anyway so this isn't a problem. As for reversing i have a jockey wheel so un-hook and just wheel it into place rather than try and mess around reversing it if it's a tight spot.

iv just bought a trailer to transport my LED dancefloor around in, i got it off ebay an amazing bargain but the company who make it are called LYNTON trailers in Glossop its the loadlugger 400.

you wont go far wrong with it.
