I had a nice gig on Saturday.

It was a 50th birthday with mainly middle aged people and quite a few members from the golf club were there, all very friendly. In fact 6 people had offered to buy me a drink within the first hour!

I started about 10pm and I had a full floor for about an hour and then people started sitting down and I noticed they were crowding round one particular area just round the corner, out of view. It turns out a lady had slipped off her chair and possibly broken her ankle! Ambulance arrived and paramedics asked me to turn the music down a little so they could talk to her.

The lady who had the accident has a great sense of humour and while she was being taken care of, lots of people were asking me to play something appropriate for her, so as she was wheeled out on the stretcher, I played bits of Elvis Costello - I can't stand up for falling down, Chumbawamba - Tub thumping and to her great amusement, as she was being wheeled across the dance floor, the theme from Casualty!

It got a great laugh from everyone and the party carried on with lots of dancers.

After reading your post, I think I'll have to get some more TV themes, as I only have a few, and they could be useful for situations like that.

There's a lot to be said for how quickly we react to & deal with unexpected situations.

Your post reminded me of a 50th wedding anniversary I did a few months back for the parents a guy in one of my pub quiz teams.

Early in the evening the woman tripped & landed flat on her back.

It was obvious she hadn't hurt herself, so I quickly got on the mic & said something like "It's only 8 o'clock...how many have you had?" which got a laugh all round - especially from the lady herself.

Something like that happened to me years ago but it was'nt such a happy ending. Apparently, someone at the party I was doing (a 21st if I remember correctly), had a heart attack in the loos. The paramedics came and the hall emptied out a bit whilst concerned / nosey people went to see what was happening. I'm not sure who it was but it was towards the end of the night and the party kind of fizzled out but I heard talking as I was packing up and it sounded like the guy who had the heart attack could'nt be revived (or whatever the word is).

I have all the Mastermix TV sets CDs and they are brilliant. I've used them on so many ocassions for so many different things. I have approaching 1000 themes now. Very useful for quiz nights too.

I had a function once where at the end of the night after a band was playing I was going to go on for the last 45 minutes of the evening but was asked not to as someone had fallen down alot of steps on the way to the toilet as they were downstairs. Ambulance came just as we were packing away but we got thanked alot buy the Bride & Groom for ending early and our concern about the man who had fallen downstairs.

I've got about 500 plus TV Themes Darren. I love them and like chucking them in at random on nights that I promote myself. I actually used the 'This is your life' theme as an intro to someone's 40th birthday party last December and they found it hilarious. I started with that and then played the single that was at number 1 on the day they were born and then the first single they ever bought. It really worked well.
