Just watching it now on ITV1 and YMCA is the UK's favourite dance routine :)

Anyone else watching?

Makes a change something good being on telly :)

Me too, although I am strangely hooked on the X Factor (usually watch it when I get in)

No but my wife told me about it--

It was requested at my Wedding gig ---as usual at every Wedding I do

Next week as well--its on the list---

So what exactly is it that makes YMCA unpopular?

Is there a Peter Kay type image problem?

I understand the Birdie Song, Macarena, Lets Twist again etc were all on there--sounds like my standard playlist for people of a certain age:)

Admittedly most of my Disco work is for older people.

Thanks, I thought I'd got the wrong end of the stick there for a moment :sj:

Alan meant unpopular with certain dj's I think. And the reason of course is that we are over familiar with it having to play it at nearly every party gig. There are certain dj's who think that it is cool to play music the punters are not expecting rather than those they want and love. Its the cheese debate again. At my wedding last night First dance was 7.45 and I had requests for YMCA, Macarena, Cha Cha Slide and Superman (Black Lace) within an hour.

I managed not to play YMCA last night, but did have requests and play Cha cha slide, macarena, Saturday night and 5, 6, 7, 8!

This was after the bride said she didn't like cheese and she was the one who came over and said I could play it, if people were asking for it.

It's a song that is almost never requested on my forms. Last time it was requested was about 7 months ago. Funnily enough, that was the last time I played it.

I think I must have played it nearly every Saturday night this year! Along with Cha Cha (thy mix beautifully), Whigfield and 5678. I do like a bit of Gorgonzla :)

I rarely play it at my residency (although I have on a couple of occasions) but at birthday's and weddings it almost a 'dead cert' and usually gets requested too early.

I must say i managed to watch this show as well. I'm embarrassed to say i enjoyed the show.:o

No real surprises in there and most of the songs performed live were not from the original artists but still a good show. Beats the normal crap.
