I did a search before i posted this and did not find anything:o

my question is for a New year disco from 7:30pm untill 01:00 am as a percentage how much extra doe you charge because it is a new year disco.

i have had a few enquires on my website for this and i am unsure what to charge. Any advice would be great guys thanks you

Like Tony said we have had this subject before and the norm seems to be double bubble for Christmas Eve and Old Years Night. Certainly in the many years I have been doing this that has appeared to be what most artistes expect. Every year there is always some twerp who posts that to charge extra is ripping the client off and he only ever charges normal rate for NYE - well more fool him!

This subject really depends on who you are charging. I do 2 x bookings for very good clients on NYE and couldn't possibly charge them treble, though normally just under double.

I have done 4 NYE and last year was the worst in a pub what I took on, Sent them the contract for Disco/Karaoke, They phoned me up 2 days before saying they didn't want karaoke and would i do it for £300, I said i don't knock £150 off for not doing karaoke, They said fine not a problem as we have signed the contract, Did the night in the pub and it was dead, I mean there was only me and the bar staff there to see the new year in. At the end of the night they gave me the envelope with £200 cash in it, I said where is the other £250 and they said thats all I was getting due to no karaoke, I told them about the contract and they told me to leave the pub before they broke my legs, nearly 12 months on and the legal battle has only just ended with me winning it hands down and recieving my money that I was owed.

Like when it went to the small claims court my solicitor said "It is not my clients fault you didn't take enough money behind the bar to pay for the DJ, It was you who agreed to pay amount for Mr Mitchell's services and signed contract which advised you read the T&C's so you are responsible to pay the amount"

The way I look at it is this - I always work Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Years Eve and I always do the same venue, my local. I do not charge them double or treble the price although there is an increase. They know that but they are also more than happy with the price I give them.

I do a student / indie / rocky type venue and so I know around 99% of the punters (even by name too!). The venue gives me work all year round so I acknowledge that. I am not one for shouting prices about but on this occasion I will. I am doing Christmas Eve (8pm - 1am) for £350.00. I am doing Boxing Day (8pm - Midnight) for £250.00 and New Years Eve (8pm - 2am) for £450.00. Yes, I could probably get more BUT...my local is 5 minutes walk from my house, I can store my gear in the lockup there and enjoy myself too. All of my friends will be at all of the nights, I don't have kids as yet and so my wife will be there on the nights too. I personally think it's a win-win situation and I am happy to do it.

Add to that, I actually like working on these dates. Especially after you have done countless christmas parties at the hotel which become boring after a while no matter how good they are. When I get into my local and play different tunes to the crowd that I know and get paid well for it (over £1000 for 3 nights in quick succession is a nice pay day), then I get to work and enjoy myself too.
Maybe in the future when kids come along, that will change but not yet.

I do one mobile Disco a year, and that is on new years eve at hotel in Buckinghamshire. 70s and 80s night, this year will be my 6th year doing it. I really enjoy it. It has a loyal following too, pretty much the same peeps every year, the money is good too. Much more than what I get in a club.

I charge around double too - this NYE I am doing around 2 1/2-3 hours as there's a band on as well. The woman who is organising it said she'll pay for 'my time' as she appreciates it's a very sought after time of year and that even though I am only playing for a short while, I still have to be there at 7 and finish at 12:30(ish).

Why can't more people be as understanding :(
