View Full Version : Hard Drive Partitions

Hi Folks,
Didn't know if to post this in the Technical section so I posted it here.
On my Fujitusu Siemens laptop when I bought it they have put a partition on the hard drive so there is 2 sections 1 is around 40gb with nothing on it and then the other is around 100gb with the main winodws files on it. I am just wondering how easy partitions are to remove without having to format the system.

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you mean you want to merge the two partitions together, it is easy to do with any decent drive image software.

I have an image of my windows drive after a fresh install backed up, so if I have any issues that can't be resolved by a system restore (buried malware etc), I can default back to a fresh install within 20 minutes. I just have to move any files I want to save over to the second partition.

Correct I just want to merge the two partitions together.As far as I know, that cannot be done without wiping both of the drives. However, as I said, any decent drive image software will do it for you with the minimum of fuss. Shouldn't be too expensive either, because you only need to do it at 'dos' level (ie. upon boot-up, before booting into windows), so it can be older software.

Thanks for that, I will take alook into that before making any rash decisions and ending up without a working laptop :)

Did anyone look at the link I gave? It's a free (Open Source) alternative to Partion Magic, which will give you a bootable CD Image from which you can do all kinds of things with partitions...

I've never used it to resize (or reconfigure) 2 partitions while keeping the data on both, so can't say if that's possible or not, but I'd imagine you can certainly keep all the data on at least one of them...give it a try (but remember, backup!)
