Following the closing speeches thread, when you finish for the night, do you tell people who you are or who you've been working for?

Normally at the start.

During the last song I always say "I've been Dazzy D for Lightning Disco (or any other company that I may have been subbing for)".

It's something I've always done. I also state this at the beginning of the show and when the room is fairly full.

I've never thought about it to be honest. What I will do though, and I always do this...is, just before the last song, I will say something like... "Once again, congratulations to the bride and groom (or person whoever is having the birthday etc), I would personally like to thank you all for being a great crowd this evening and being up for it. It's been a pleasure, have a safe journey home and enjoy the rest of your weekend and most of all, thanks for booking me".

I will say that even if it hasn't been that great a night. It usually prompts a round of applause and now and then I'll get asked for cards. My number is also on my request slips too so I have seen people pick them up and take them with them. Not sure why but I think I would feel a bit funny saying my company name etc..

No I normally introduce myself at the start with any other information I want to give, at the end I normally say goodnight hope everyone has enjoyed themselves, sometimes mention name again & drive safely etc.

to be honest, no i never have, dont think id feel right doing it (although theres certainly nothing wrong with it), although like shakermaker i will thank the crowd and once again congratulate the subject of the party - birthday boy/girl, bride and groom etc just before the last song, but never have turned the focus back to me once ive done that.

Rarely will I mention the company name. I'll usually introduce myself at the beginning when begging for requests etc. but subtle use of the moving graphics logo is good enough for me.

Quite a few adult gigs have video recording as an option, and we also offer to put clips online with password protection. Most of the time we don't mention this and rely on the host passing on the details, but for events such as works parties etc. we'll often give out the password on the night, therefore it's necessary to tell folks who we are. But these are a small minority.

From seeing various pictures on here I got the impression a lot of Discos had their name displayed prominently ---Dragonfly, Spin etc ? so no need maybe.

I know Steve ( Corabar ) doesnt.

If im at a Barn Dance I have a rustic sign in two foot letters so no need to mention my name and no hiding place;)

If I dont use a sign then at the end I always make mention of my name, wish everyone a safe journey home etc---I think thats taking a professional approach --not necessarily using it as an advert.

used to but been totally unbranded now for a year but i introduce myself at the start when telling the audience they are welcome to come and ask for requests or just say hi but at the end just thank everyone for their support of both myself and the party person or persons and wish everyone a safe journey home.

Absolutely, but most of our functions are private--so they just ask the Birthday boy or the Bride for the phone number, web site etc ---bingo:thumbs_up:

If they are really IMPRESSED :D they come up and say--I want to book you for xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I always do at the beginning then continue mentioning requests etc.
If done right I dont think you can beat having ya name on the front.
As mentioned in another post there is a fine line between classy and tacky when it comes to advertising.
All mine will be is a matt black banner with the name overlaid with white UV reactive wording and purely the name with no slogans or contact details.
But going back on topic I dont think it hurts to advertise via the mic.

It's not me or my music because they stay on the dance floor most of the night. Just want an early night after all that booze. Laugh out loud.

Never mention the name of my disco. If they want it the client knows it, or they can grab a business card.

I may mention my own name and offer to take requests near the start, but this is usually only at teenage discos.

The end of the night is for thanking people for coming and being a great audience.

As I said Darren, I will thank them all for a great night, wish them a good weekend and a safe journey home. My number is on my request slips which are out on the tables anyway and people grab them. I have had a couple of bookings come in where people have done it that way but most people ask the person who was having the party.

Saying my name or company name over the mic is something I have never done. Each to their own though.

But quite often a lot of people arent there at the start of the night when I introduce myself.

It just seems to be polite to let people know who I am in case they want to make a request. "Hey Nigel can you play xxxx" is much better than "Hey DJ can you play xxxx"

If you dont introduce yourself you can seem a bit aloof or stand offish.

Sticking the animated logo on the screens as folks are arriving and during a few slowies is enough for me. Subtle but effective. Lots of customers are word of mouth and lots of website entry points are searches which are *******isations of my name. Some folk even get it right first time :D
