I had an email from one asking if I was avaliable to do a new years eve disco but sadly I was already booked up.


Now she did ask If I give discounts to NHS staff. Well I checked the email and chased it up and it was from a local hospital wanting book a disco.


If I was avalialbe I would of given discount.


What would you of done???

Yes I would.

I did have at one point on my web site saying discounts given to Armed Forces and 999 Services.

They deserve it IMO. :)

I don't give discount or do freebies to anyone who comes along and I don't care if they are a government department or nurses or whatever.

I do a lot of work during the year for free for schools etc etc. Perhaps you didn't know this?

I don't have to give discount to anyone and certainly don't have to answer to you and your bloody self righteousness telling me I am wrong.

There are lots of deserving causes out there that you have to pick and choose very carefully who you want to discount. This is not an extra bit of cash to me, it is a living, so please go and stick your nose in someone elses post cause you really have annoyed me this time, telling me I'm wrong.

Don't you think that NHS have budgets along with everyone else when it comes to social events? Why should they be treated any differently?

If people want to give discount to what they think are deserving causes, that's up to them, but please do not tell me I am wrong because I don't.:mad:

Every year I do a charity ball for Cancer Research Uk, Also a number of school events I do for free, If the NHS was to contact me then I would offer free confetti cannons or maybe free optional flame effects but that's as far as I would go because of the fact I am here to run a business and I do see myself as doing my bit.

I do know of much of the free work you do. I never implied that you put pecuniary advantage above altruism in every case. It's a difficult decision as to who might qualify for a discount, I know we can't give everyone preferential treatment. I expressed an opinion, perhaps without qualifying it enough, for which I apologise. I should not have used the terms which I did, it was unwise. Let's have another go.

In my opinion, armed forces and emergency services often put their lives on the line for us, and deserve our help.

While I didn't make it clear, not every NHS/ Emergency service Social event is funded in the same way. I've done plenty organised and funded entirely by the rank and file, rather than high command, for which I have little respect.

It's a living to me too Darren, you know it's what puts food on my family table every week.

In my inadequate defence, you are now saying that you do give discounts but not to the same people as I do. Your initial post suggested no discounts, full stop. I know that's not the case, but others might have got a false impression. Most of us would like to offer discounts to many bodies, but we have to restrict it. You're quite right that I can't say that your choice is wrong, but what I was trying unsuccessfully to say was that the sole pursuit of monetary gain is not an admirable end in itself. Must go now, I need to re-adjust my halo. ;) :D

I strongly resent the inference that I drink in the afternoon. That is an unwarranted and uncalled for slur on my character. You should hang your head in shame for making it.

Hi Tom,

I would have probably done the gig for my normal rates.

I've never done a free disco in my life, and the only people who get discounts are people I know, either because they are family, or I worked with them in the bank, or have done a disco for them before or because they support one of my quiz nights.

I got probably the same e-mail. I have done jobs for hospital social clubs before and not given or been asked for a discount. I wouldnt rule it out but for New Year's Eve I am afraid it is not an option.
