First time for everything!!

Well well, as many of you know I had my first wedding yesterday, (Saturday) and what a great success it was!

We arrived at 5.00pm, in dads half arctic van with, "Aura Designer" furniture written all over it...the guests probably thought we were moving in!

I jumped out to realize photos were taking place. It was a quiet sunny day in lovely green surroundings. I could tell already the wedding must have cost a bomb! The first person I saw was a man, near the bushes. I walked over to him, tapped him on the shoulder to discover that he was urinating in the bush! What a good start, I thought! He led me over to the photos and all was peaceful until he shouts "Lee Family, Oi Calling Lee's." Everyone turns round, some in disgust, "Come on, The Disco Bloke is here, wants to know where to unload!" I am then approached by a kind refined lady who gives me directions to the "manor house."

I'm in a separate room to where the meal is taking place, so for the first time by self, slowly start to setup. Sound first so I can play some Jazz and Swing as the guests enjoy their champagne.

Once the sound is setup, I hear two infectious laughs coming from the reception. I soon discover it is the 60 year old waitresses. They can’t open the bottles of bubbly or pour a glass of beer, so I end up helping them setup up the bar for a good 45mins, whilst having a laugh with them. I explained it's my first wedding, and in the process knock over a bottle of bubbly, over the white table cloth. I could of died, but they didn’t seem to care much and just laughed it off. :)

Lights next and I found this quite hard, especially the goal post, but after a good 40 minutes it was done, and I was very proud. That was it know for a few hours! My pals for the night were the waitresses and the photographer. He ate for England, and poured himself 3/4 of a pint glass of champagne, I couldn’t believe it, and thought it was really unprofessional.

8.30, was time for the first dance. That went well, and I found it very easy talking on the mic. Straight after the first dance I played, Walk of Life-Dire Straits. The rest of the night the dance floor was quite full. Majority of the music was standard cheese (everything on rob's list), but in particular, "Tiger Feet-Mud" and "When You’re Gone-Bryan Adams" and "Brown Sugar-Rolling Stones" were the best.

Early finish at 11, so all in all had a very good night. A few came up for cards, and one lady had a two minute talk about her wedding, so that was also very good:)

Looks like everyone had a great time, well done. But didnt think your surpose to point lasers down to the dancing floor? Ive always been told to point them to a wall over peoples heads

Hmm yes you are right, but the room was so small It was tricky, and the beam was diluted with smoke.....

Well Done, you doing very well at your age. Keep it up. You said about the van with writing on it, I wouldnt worry as the van im ment to be using on the 11th doesnt work! Got to wait and see.

Charlie i remember when you first came to the forum and all the questions you was asking. I thought at the time here is a young kid wanting to learn as much as he can and be the best that he can be so its really refreshing to see just how far you have come in a short space of time.

For a wedding I think its ok to have that space. Not what I would choose for lighting but that is personal choice - watch that laser though.

Be wary of your goalpost legs. The one close to what looks like an exit door seems to stck out a lot. Also I think the speakers would be better with bass bins on floor with tops or on stands.

For your age though don't worry. They (and you) had a good night so be pleased with yourself.

I would say take away the strobes. No need for a wedding really.

Also if possible maby get rid of the prosound speakers and get some bass bins. Even 1 would help improve the sound. :)

Hmm I will have to agree to disagree. The strobes maybe for most weddings aren't appropriate but for this particular crowd they really enjoyed them. I used them through out the night-quite a bit.

The pro sound speakers, sound really very good. They can't compare to Mackie or Bose but for the jobs I do at the moment they are ok. I use the class D speakers as bass bins-it gets me by...but I totally understand what you are saying and is something I will invest in, in the near future. Thanks for your advice....taken into serious consideration:)

Sure, I would not haven chosen that lighting either-but I don't have much choice in the matter! I think some led lights will be my next investment...but for the mean time I would like to see the cash coming to spend on my self a bit. £300 to pay off then I'm done, so the 10th October is going to be on big party for me!

As I said, I cant put poles through the class D as they aren't bass bins.

Well that's really weird then, as I definately did a post between 11pm & midnight last night...which I entered & I then saw on my screen, but about 15 minutes later it had gone.

2) While it's good to be helpful, I wouldn't have gone off and spent 45 minutes helping the waitresses until AFTER I'd finished setting up & sound-checking the disco...and possibly not even then (not that long, anyway).

3) I was pleased to hear that the old crap I play at weddings week in & week out also worked well for you!
