Fire Extinguisher

Having just joined Seda, it is membership rule that you need to carry a fire extinguisher with you, so to that end, has anyone got a link for the sort of thing I should carry?

just a small dry power and co2 one will be fine, you can pick them up off ebay, also a first aid kit with a burns treatment kit inside aswell, these things are 100% on my list when comes to health and saftey, and maybe you should carry a little chart like this one http://www.thefiredepartment.co.uk/acatalog/feChart.jpg

It should normally be provided by the venue, but carrying your own is a good idea. The type you would have in a caravan or car should be OK.
Errr... just make sure it doesn't have water in it!!!!
Don't forget, unless it's minor that could be put out with a small extinguisher then the fire brigade will advise leave it and get out anyway.
Unless you know how to use one or have had formal training there is a risk of doing more harm than good.

carry both or just the dry power, the co2 is for more higher voltages

That's what I'd have thought...especially in these days where health & safety laws are so strict.

it swings both ways, both the venue and dj ment to have one, maybe you set up 30meters away from the nearest fire point, in that time, thing could be hell, have one at hand, just incase, also every car/van should have one imo :beer1: damian

Welcome to SEDA Darren. Nice to meet you at last yesterday evening. It is indeed a condition of SEDA membership that you carry a fire extinguisher which really makes good common sense. I also carry one in the van. Suitable ones are available from good DIY stores, Motor Accessory stores and Alarm/Security companies. As previously stated dont get a water one as they are no good on electrical fires and in Rob's case it would not be a good idea to use it when his equipment catches fire! From time to time SEDA used to get a rep in from one of the extinguisher companies who could supply at a discount and also check/service member's extinguishers. We have also had talks or demonstrations from the fire brigade. Maybe its about time that happened again. (Take note Paul)

whats the benifits about joining seda, also how much does this cost? do they let leisure firms join up, my business is targeted towards leisure, which does include mobile disco and karaoke , cheers damian

Now that Darren has bought a fire extinguisher I just thought I would add that I always carry one with me, It is a dead cert that when I am doing the indoor pyrotechnics the fire extinguisher is sat at the side of the controller that fires the pyros. As I can always say you can never be too safe and all Dj's should carry one around with them.

It isnt!:) But if any Norfolk dj's felt it was appropriate and useful for them to join bearing in mind all the meetings are held 100 miles away from them then they could. Also in fairness the web site says "SEDA dj's who work in Norfolk" and I just looked and there are none listed. Also you need to get onto Brian Mole to get yourself listed on the find a dj pages and get a SEDA homepage like me.

i carry 2 with me one in the back of the van fixed to the back door and one in the cab with a first aid grab bag just hope i never have to use any of them

The day after I joined, Paul (Forsyth) sent me an email asking if there was anything he could do for me and I bet he wishes he never asked now as I sent him a list of half a dozen things that I though needed updating or changing and that was one of them. :thumbsup:

Yes, you have to be very careful, I remember reading somewhere that a person got sued for breaking someones rib whilst perforimg CPR. How ungrateful! A simple 'thank you for saving my life' would've been much more appropriate. :confused:

get one from the caravan/camping shop, that should do, although i'm yet to go to a venue without one in.
Get a fire blanket too, so if the dance floor is quiet and you make some chips on the camping stove you can put the fire out before the punters know what your doing

now thats not what im saying is it theo, with the way the world is obsessed with suing people for wrong doing, i've already done a first air course at work, but that still applies to the same question that trained or not trained you are still liable if the person dies or is seriously injured, not whats happening at the time it's what happens after.

now thats not what im saying is it theo, with the way the world is obsessed with suing people for wrong doing, i've already done a first air course at work, but that still applies to the same question that trained or not trained you are still liable if the person dies or is seriously injured, not whats happening at the time it's what happens after.

I've done first aid courses too. I've also seen the news articles about people who get into trouble for intervening in fights. I just say I will and/or would take that risk. If someone wants to sue me for trying to help someone else then so be it.
