Who's inspired you lately?

The human spirit’s a great thing. It never ceases to amaze me how some people handle situations that I feel would break my spirit if it were to happen to me. I can’t help but feel truly inspired when I see people overcome obstacles with such dignity and gusto for life, that it leaves me feeling humbled.

People like Dave (Dragonfly). I try to imaging how life-changing it would be to me to if I were to lose a limb. How would I handle the situation, would it change me? Then you look at the strength of character Dave has, and his will and determination. It’s quite amazing! My hat off to you, Dave. I mean that with the greatest sincerity.

There’s also a DJ local to me, Brad Stewart, or member: ‘blitz’ as he’s known here on the forum. The feedback I’ve heard about him is that he puts on a fantastic disco, and takes great pride in his work, his gear, and the service he provides. It’s only recently I found out that he had been paralysed from the waist down in a car accident 12 years ago. The accident put stop to his newly completed bricklayer apprenticeship, but after the road to recovery his drive and determination pushed him on to starting up and building up a successful disco business here in Fife. I find it absolutely remarkable how he has overcome such adversity. It’s quite inspirational. I've included an article below about Brad, he's kindly given me permission to post it here on the forum.

Ta for the shout out Shaun great article too . Paersonally alot of things and people have inspired me , music is a huge one my favourite songs ever :

queen - the show must go on
bon jovi - captain crash and the beauty queen from mars
Robert Tepper - No easy way out
survivor - burning heart

the lyrics to all these speak volumes , alot of people imo label people like myself and blitz as "BRAVE" my argument is you are only brave if you have a choice! people who choose to go into burning buildings to rescue children are brave , people who choose to risk their life going to fight for their country are brave.

All we do well me anyway is make decisions to enable me to live my life to its full potential only really ever putting small aspects of my life at risk not all of it , yeah i've had over 30 lots of surgery , not because i'm he-man and want to prove how hard i am but because i'd have died if i did'nt lol.

My outlook on things I think differs from some because of my experiences but usually that is a good thing , I've always said I have no desire to be the biggest disco or best DJ in town because I see it as vastly unimportant what has always been important for me to hear at gigs or as feedback was that what I did was "DIFFERENT" not better or with more lights or speakers but that I gave someone a unique experience that wasnt the same as the others as this i have found as ive got older to be a valuable selling point.

I always say at job interviews when asked

"what makes you better than the next or last person we interviewed?"

"absolutely nothing at all !!! i don't know the other candidates so I can't possibly say why i'm a better choice , but what I can promise is I'm different from them and just as capable"

If i'm honest people who have inspired me recently would certainly be Paul and Tony on here in a world where sadly most people seem to just want to shaft each other and live by the one upmanship rule these two men have proved the value of friendship to a person who really doesn't have that many close friends with their professionalism versatility and compassion.

My ultimate hero of all time is a guy called Peter Hull born with no arms or legs he works as a sports development officer in Hampshire and is an ex gold medal paralympic swimmer and live a completely independant life (worth a google)

to sum up and it is indeed cheesy underdog wins in the end rubbish but i force my kids to watch the rocky films whenever they are on and for many years have used a speeech in the 4th film as a base for my thinking on life :

I now compete in wheelchair rugby a sport specifically designed for quads (people with a disability in all four appendiges) it's flaming brutal these guys although having limited upper body function are stacked and when they hit you in a chair it's like a lorry and i've eaten court twice now huuuuuge fun!!!! i'm chucking protein down my neck like it's going out of fashion as I look like mr. muscle when I turn up. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Clifford has inspired me deeply over the past few weeks.























The recent absense of his "tune of the week" has been so refreshing, I'd go as far as saying it's been spiritually inspirational??? :p :p

While not being in the same "league" (excuse the pun, it's not meant to be disrespectful) I have recently had a total hip replacement and will be going back under the knife soon for my other hip to be done. I suffer from osteo-arthritis from prolonged use of steroids which I had to take to treat an illness called Crohns disease which I have had for about 18 years.
Both these illnesses have a major effect on my social life but you can't let them get you down or allow them to rule your life, the human spirit is a wonderful thing and trust me when I say that if anything bad happens to you along the way you will be surprised how you adjust and deal with things.

This is why i do all i can for Help for Heroes the way they bounce back after some terrible injuries leaves me in awe

I know what you mean I joined up straight from school back in 1985 and come May 8th next year i'm free again after 24 years service to her madge.

Certainly seen plenty "sights" around the world, 3 trips to Iraq, Bosnia, and other places where the locals love you ;) not forgetting around 5 years in Belfast, the first time in the early 90's where things were a "little bit lively"

I did it because I wanted too and saw it just like any other job.

if i had stayed in i would have 3 years left now for my 22 and nice big pension i got out at the right time and to honest i have missed it a lot more than i ever thouight i would. its amazing to see all the new recruits with chest full of medals these days finish training and the next day iraq or afgan.It was Bosnia then kosovo when i was in was posted to iraq but spent 6 months in cyprus in reserve good old days

the govement really needs to wake up and treat our armd forces better but that a story for another day.

I do. I find that story very inspirational.

Perhaps you could do an MDD interview for us Brad? I would find that most interesting and I'm sure others would too, knowing the adversity and pain you've been through.
