On Tuesday night at my pub quiz, a guy came in, came up to me to shake my hand & thanked me for doing the music for his wedding (in August), and said how much everyone enjoyed it.

Nothing strange about this, except I'd done his wedding in August LAST YEAR, and this was the first time he'd contacted me since!

Is this a record? or has anyone else done a gig, but not been contacted by the client to say thank you until more than a year and a month later?

I was amazed!

He was merely in the same place at the same time & decided to go & thank you.

But in that situation I've had somebody thank me over 2 years after the event (although we did receive thanks at the time too). At a wedding last month I also had a lady come up to me & say something along the lines of "Oh good it's you. You did our wedding in April 2007 & you were fantastic, we're in for a good night"

I can beat that by about 20 years! A guy came up to me last year at a Wedding Fayre that he was attending with his Daughter, and thanked me for a great night at his Wedding back in the 80s!! He also booked me for the daughters wedding!!

He wasn't in the same place at the same time & decided to go & thank me, and that's why I thought it was funny & started the thread.

He was literally passing the pub with his parents (he told me they were in the car outside) and knowing I'd be there to do the quiz he just came in, walked up to me to thank me & have a quick chat, then walked back out again!

I can understand someone thanking you for something if they happen to be in the same place as you by coincidence, but I was just amused that someone can go out of their way to thank you more than a year later, but they can't do the same just after the gig!

If he'd really wanted to thank you, wouldn't he have phoned, emailed or written a little sooner?

It's no more than a coincidence, somebody passing a pub, realising you were there & popping in to say Hi. It's really not going out of his way to thank you.

It might have only taken him 5 minutes, but that IS making an effort, it was NOT a coincidence and he DID go out of his way to thank me.

As it's happened to me twice & Pete once, I'd have to guess that at least 50% of other DJs have had something similar happen, so hardly an unusual occurrence

No official figure exists to the true amount of times that I have passed either building). Sometimes I pop in for a chat others (usually if they look busy) I don't. Neither option takes any more or less effort on my part.
