This one is probs for those who has a van that is sign written.
What do you have on the the van info wise? numbers, logos, text etc and how is it set out?
going to get my van done and was playing about last night to try and see what it might look like but can't seem to get a happy medium between to much and not enough info and how it's set out (either to cluttered or looks to bitty)

info is a must, sumthing classy, maybe some white,gold,reds, it needs to stand out, but not in your face if you know what i mean, go vist a sign shop tell um what you want, they do afew designs, then bingo, cheers damian

I kept mine basic, as too much clutter looks silly, I think.

Some insurance companies will bump up your insurance if you get something written on the side of your vehicle.

Whilst I agree, you have to ask yourself about security as a whole.
How many people know what you do and where you live ?? Using booking forms is a dead giveaway.
Loading and unloading from a garage - everyone can see !
From local knowledge I bet most people will know where you store your equipment and whilst a garage etc is more secure it is still easily accessable to the right person.

As said I do agree but never heard of an insurance company to bump the prices and as most other companies/trades advertise on their van - why not ?

I got a quote off an Internet site and one of the questions was about saying what your business was on the side of your van. I must admit thats the first time i had heard of it so I think it must have been a van insurance site.

My insurance company said they like the van signwritten as its less likely to get stolen if its signwritten as it is more conspicuous.

They reckon plain vans get stolen more as they are harder to find

A signwritten van might be less likely to be stolen, but it's MORE likely to be broken into & have the gear nicked, simply because it's advertising what's inside.

To answer the original question, if you're having sign writing, I'd say you need three essential things: business name, business description (if it's not part of your name) & phone number.

Possibly a website address too.

I certainly wouldn't have any more than that.

and maybe you could invest in one of these (http://www.locksonline.co.uk/acatalog/Era_Block_Van_Lock.html), small outlay but perfect for extra securty, also i would have central locking, with alarm and the rest of the dogs dangley bits, also try and have no windows in the back doors of a van, cheers damian

its what the local knock off pikey people round here do, one minute their scrap removal then an hour later the same van has become the local tarmacing and landscape company lol

Seen a sign company today so thet are going to mock up a couple of designs starting at the lower end of the scale up to full graghix, probs go with something in the middle that is easy to read and looks good without bein to in your face.
I can see what a few people are saying about security etc but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out what you do and where you stay, even at venues it's not hard to work out which vehical the disco came in.
It's basically free advertising once the initial outlay is paid

My opinion is that they are too cluttered.
The one on the lower right has potential; Keep the red 'swirl' and your name, but just have the home phone number below the mame and ditch everything else, but perhaps keep the e-mail address where it is.

All else is clutter and simply makes the info too hard to read at a glance.

People might have to read it at 30MPH in a town so the simpler and easier it is to read the better.

In general I would ensure that on the back doors, a small logo stating that nothing of value is kept in the vehicle overnight! would help aleviate the insurers. As most of us, with any sense? Would store your euipment in a safer place than a van overnight.

Keep the signage sharp but simple

Telephone Number's are essential

reversed writing for Front always catches eyes in car mirrors ask the ambulances LOL even a sunvisor with the disco name in it works

as well as the equipment warning on rear doors just the disco name, telephone and maybe website address

Sides are always a subtle selling point never be to loud but be sharp, but never use magnetics they blow off if you start going over 60mph especially if worn out, and people nick them for the hell of it. I used to be a cab driver I lost loads over the years to kids and the wind and weather conditions. It aint cheap to keep replacing them. also make sure all signs are removable, should you sell the van, you dont want the buyer to payout for doing it themselves. It helps you sell the van quicker

This is where vans with windows or no windows come in.

If there are windows then people can see there is nothing in and leave the van alone.

If the windows are blacked out then they cant see and think there is something worth nicking in the van.

Personally, I don't think any of them look more cluttered than the other. If I was you I would choose the second design out of the first section. Looks more impressive.

It makes things complicated when you come to sell the van.
A lot of buyers wont want your advert on their van.

Well in that case you peel them off, wash and dry the van, t-cut the van, wash and dry again. Job done.

I would say wax and polish but I think thats a bit to far for a van. lol. Might cost a bit too. lol

I have seen them peeled off before and what a mess it makes especially if they have been on years.

The paint that isnt covered is changed in colour by daylight.
UV light affects the colour of the paint.

Nothing. My van was sign written with an engineering companies name and numbers and they did just that before I bought it.

I've used vans for the last 15 years, and many of the adverts I've seen have stated "unwritten" or "Not sign written" as it's a good selling point.

I certainly wouldn't want to buy a van if I had to go through the hassle & expense of removing the business details of the previous owner.

I'd rather buy a van which was plain in the first place.

Well in that case you would want to use a car wax which stop up to 99% of uv rays. Just mask off around the vinyl and just work on the paint. Wax should last about 6 month before you would need to do it again.

That's if you worried about the paint. lol

If you are so worried about that get a full wrap then! The paint will be like new when you take it off again. No left over DJ imprints. :D
