My first cancellation

Hi all,

Luckily I haven't had a cancellation before, well up until today. For the past 3 years I have supplied a 3 hour Halloween Disco for a local Community Centre. The kids (aged from around 5yrs to 11yrs old) all love it. I have been dealing with the same lady for the past 3 years but had the call last week from a different one. She was just as excited as the other one (who has moved out of the area now) and was really looking forward to it. She called me earlier to say that she would have to cancel due to there not being enough volunteers offering to help out like they usually do.

I have said that I wasn't booked on the night and at the moment I would leave it open for her if the volunteers suddenly appeared. I'm a bit gutted for the kids as they love the Disco and I am a bit disappointed for the lady who called too. She said it was a nice gesture in me offering to keep the date open but she thinks it's best to cancel as she can't see anything changing but if it does, she will call me.

Oh well....nevermind eh!?

I wouldn't worry too much, though, because it happens, although very rarely in my experience.

Off the top of my head, I can recall having about 3 or 4 cancellations, which isn't bad in 25 years!

I fear you may be right Alan.

Let's just hope they all cancel less than a month in advance, then.....so we can still demand full payment under our terms & conditions!

Off the top of my head, I can recall having about 3 or 4 cancellations, which isn't bad in 25 years!

I have had one cancellation in 34 years.
And that was after she knocked me right down to £75 for a christening party !
Her excuse was they couldnt afford it.

I've recently had the 4th cancellation in... blimey... 15 years or more.

New Year's Eve, unfortunately - the organisers don't think they can get enough guests to cover the costs, at a price they are willing to pay per ticket.
Oh well - I was thinking of spending it with the family this year anyhow!

But sorry to hear your kids may miss out; Getting volunteers has always been a problem, whether it be a youth club, halloween disco or whatever, and the same has happened in my village many times in the past.

It may yet happen - when word of the cancellation gets around, help may crawl out of the woodwork. :)

A similar situation was on tv this week. They said that the UK has become a paranoid risk-averse society where kids think all adults are perverts and all adults are potential perverts unless they've been CRB vetted. They said that this situation has prompted the biggest shortage in volunteers ever and many worthwhile causes, including the likes of your Community Centre Gary, are missing out. It's one of the sad realities of living in the modern world. :(

My main job is a carer and the checks and courses you have to do is unbelievable. CRB, POVA etc Even then the inspectors come around and ask the clients if I am abusing them.
