only 500 quid plus an amp of course.
what's a good amp for under £300? £200 even better :)
my budget is, ideally, under £1,000. £800 even better :zip:
Looking for a sound system for small to medium size function rooms but with potential for larger if required.
I hear a lot about mackies but then i hear about them overheating so i wouldnt wanna take the risk.
am not against active speakers.
JBL's?

budget amps, kam,warrior
mid range c mark
high end rcf, crown, qsc
if looking for active speakers i highly recommend RCF
but most high end manufactures are now kicking out budget priced ampilfiers at a decent price tag i would take alook at crown and qsc range, cheers damian

Are you sure you're not Excalibur? That's exactly the kind of thing he would post (no disrespect) :D
Although I spent £650 with Class-d and ended up with a 1400W system.

with the likes of qsc kicking out a good quality amp for just over £300 and carlsbro kicking out the gammers for around £400, i think thats better in my eyes
I hear a lot about mackies but then i hear about them overheating so i wouldnt wanna take the risk.
Not if you go for the SRM 450 V2 like what I have.
They run so much cooler. :D:D:D

OK.... but how loud does it play, Justin?

What risk?
I've not heard about the new SRM450 version two overheating.
They use digital amplifiers too, which produce hardly any heat at all.
In addition, digital amplifiers are very light, so the SRM450V2 actives are actually about 5kg LIGHTER than my Mackie C300z PASSIVES!
If anyone can work out how that can be, I'd be interested to know...as it has me completely stumped!

Ahhhhh...thanks for that Damien.
I wasn't aware the drivers & actual cabs were lighter, hence my confusion!

Hya mate have a nosy at this offer, they say they are ex display but the ones I got from them had never been opend.
http://www.whybuynew.co.uk/Ex-Display-Peavey-Pro-Sub-&-Pro-15-Package.html
For amps my personal choice if going for the peavey speakers would be also to go for the pv1500 amp as its perfectly matched, I have these and well impressed.
Plus with the amp, in the future if you want to go bi-amp you wouldn't need to use a crossover as the amp has its own built in.

Buy cheap buy twice is the old saying.
My other advice is buy as loud as you can afford as there is nothing worse than performing a gig and people are shouting "turn it up" when your going full bore !

It isn't but it just sounds better than saying "I rolled up with a max SPL of 129db system" :D

with £1000 you should be able to get top quality, reliable, proven gear that will suit you in 99% of venues.
take your time and decide carefully. its easier than you think to blow that amount of money on lesser quality speakers.
also consider size/weight when buying as a) youll have to carry them around everywhere, b) due to technology advancement, size and weight is no longer an indication of volume and capacity. dont necessarily think bigger is better. just a thought.
maybe also consider a smaller backup rig should you need it?

OK Sir, I'll bite my lip next time (and I'm sure there will be plenty more "next times". ;)

You read correctly. As this unit comes with 2 cones you get twice the bass (in very simple terms, i know this is not technically correct.) but it has been said that as the cones and horns are close together it can become muffled at high volumes so not quite as good as seperate tops and subs.
Also with the size of this stack you defiantly wouldn't put them on tripods. they are floor standing i would say.
I currently use:
2x 15" SF15 http://www2.jblpro.com/catalog/general/Product.aspx?PId=87&MId=3
1X 18" 350w JBL powered sub http://www2.jblpro.com/catalog/general/Product.aspx?PId=90&MId=3
I can honestly say this is the best system i have ever heard and can produce some serious sound with good quality.

Actually I'd have recommended something like yours, but with 15SP's in the middle. The amp recommended by Groovy is bigger and dearer than I would have suggested. For instance you could put two C-Marks in for the same price, bi-amp them, and get more control.
OK.... but how loud does it play, Justin?
I know power does not equate to loudness, but it's got six 12/15" drivers, and it's loud enough for Justin. :D

Many folk even on here don't understand the intricacies of a logarithmic scale of loudness. Added to which, there is a often feeling that some folk do not give an entirely acciurate Db rating on their kit.

this package sounds good to me. i run three dimension 4s and would swear by them. i pair them up with same output peaveys 500rms each.
