LED Uplighting Charges

Hi all,

I dont want this to become a "how much do you charge" thread, but for those of you who offer LED uplighting as an extra can you give me a little info on how you decide how much to charge for this- do you charge per head, a fixed amount, a proportion of the disco charge etc etc?

I think some people charge £200 flat fee- any other tips or suggestions?

£200 flat fee for the duration of the show, if any extra hours i would say about £25 an hour extra

My up-lighting comes as part of the disco but it's not uplighting like the likes of Jamie uses.
I have my cans on my DJstand and at least 2 of them are used for mood lighting.

I started off at £125 as an add-on for weddings, but after having done a few uplighting only jobs, I realised it was more work than I first thought.. so have put it up to £175-200 now. Thats only as an add-on though, if its a seperate service (and I'm DJing elsewhere) then its more as it means more trips to the venue and very long days!

I also offer it for throughout the day as well, so people can have the lighting during their wedding breakfast. So this means setting it all up in the morning and possibly waiting around if your too far away to return home.

This is for fairly standard 100-150 person weddings by the way.. obviously if its a much bigger venue, then I'd charge a bit more.

now then this is a road i shall be traveling down soon as i am just about to order 2 adj mega bars and 2 more 56 led par cans thus enabling me to use with my exsiting par cans and provide some nice uplighting controlled through a dmx controller. not sure ill charge more for using them with weddings to begin with but may change this in the future.

i just want to get the look right of my set up first once i am happy i have the right look then ill look to market my self more efectivley.

any way its friday i have a night off so me is going for a few :beer1: :beer1:

The same as Dan really - I thought it was going to be easier than it was too!

I charge £250+vat for 10 cans, so £25+vat per can in effect.

looking at this and seeing what you guys charge i may just add this as a add on for when i do weddings i was going to wait and see how it went but i think ill adjust my website and offer this as a additional service...thanks guys:o

As Dan will know, some venues are much harder to work in, cabling wise, so i tend to quote based on level of difficulty for set up. For example, a single wall of up lighting without obstruction is much easier than a full room full of doors to cable over etc.

However, as a guide, a package of 16 basic par 64 uplighters would be around £400 plus VAT. This would be with a pro controller, so each par is controllable individually, allowing chases etc to be programmed. If the client just wanted a static colour, without DMX control, I would probrably be quoting around £300 plus VAT for the same number of units.

Birmingham is no worse/better than any city in the UK..

The thing with uplighting is its mainly the big event/production companies etc. that do it, so they'll be charging a fortune which makes it easy for us lowly DJs to compete :D

The excess on equipment insurance is about £250.. so you obviously wouldn't claim for a £30 par can.
