a full lighting rig the other side of a marquee, using this reciver/trasmitter dmx thing ive seen on the internet

And why would it be at the other side of the the marquee

I checked this gear out once and when I worked out the cost I just bought a couple of really good quality 25m DMX cables and keep them in the van for the odd occasion I get to use them.

I was thinking of buying a couple of 20m dmx cables for when i do lighting & sounds for bands around Northampton, as i'd like to be able to controll the lights from where we do the sound. Good idea?

Yeah they will always come in handy, I also have speakon leads at 15m just incase.

Trouble is some dmx lights don't like long DMX runs and can play up. Even if you use a terminator on the end of the line.
I had a chance to see a wireless dmx control in operation last month and was quite impressed.
A lighting company had placed 4 large T-bar in each side of a large venue I play. Each 1 had 4 scanners and 4 pars on.And the great thing was They just plugged into a mains socket and it was all ready to go.
The guy was great with programming as well, I was pretty wowed with the effect of 16 scanners with 16 pars all working together.

i hate wires, would love wireless power supplys, thinking of investing in this wireless dmx system, but for over £100 a unit, it would come to a nice price, but well worth the future investment

It looks a good idea, but I don't think i'd personally have any use for it, as the lights are usually right next to me anyway. I would like a system whereby you just plug a dongle into each light and they all receive a signal from a base unit, but I image that would add a couple more zeros to the price tag!

American DJ (http://http://www.americandj.eu/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=wireless+dmx&osCsid=2gjjqfp3ovur1a1nf330erdm03) do the sender & receiver, think its either £249 for each one, or £249 for the pair, can't remember now, but as Dan says really, I can't see much use for it in normal mobile dj situations.

Why would you want to run lighting down the other end of the marquee?

I would rather keep my lighting close by me where I know it is safe, Who knows who could be tampering with it when you cannot see it.

You can make a wireless ca8 for pennies. say it in pro mobile a while back. not much control but better than nothing.
