Thanks for all the speaker advice - I'm now better informed - now I need to check out what this stuff sounds and looks like in the flesh.
I'm in Kingston, Surrey, so any shops within driving distance? (If it's London, south London is easier to get to). I've googled and found stores in central and north London but I'd rather drive somewhere more local or out of town completely.
Cheers

Try Total Sounds in Reading. They have a webstore too and John is very helpful, will pricematch and the service is really quick with free delivery on orders over £50.00. If you do get anything from there tell him Gary from Basingstoke recommended him to you.

If buying gear then always go along and see it, use it and hear it.
Then shop around for the best prices.

Can't remember the name of the place but there is one very close to you! I remember seeing it when I was working at the Epsom Derby and staying in Kingston lol! So head to Epsom from Kingston and look right!

Well remembered, Falling Frog.
The shop is called Surrey Sound & light, and I've put a link to their website below.
They're just down the road from me, and run by a guy called Paul Martyn, who has been a DJ since the early 1980s.
I used to buy lots of gear there in the days before I had a computer.

I'd like to echo Shakermakers post about Totalsounds, I've ordered a few things from there and found they were nothing but helpful, even the after sales service was excellent.
I'm not local to them as I'm in Kent but I'll be definately using them again.
