Cleaning your equipment

Ok so we all love and take pride in what we do but do we clean our equipment???


I clean my equipment all the time so it looks its best.

Every month i blow out all the fans on my lighting and also on the amp,
As for the other pieces I just use antic static wipes and wipe the dust off every couple of weeks,

Mirrors and lenses on lights are kept as cleap as possible but I don't always clean them.

I don't really have any schedule for this. I clean the tops of my subs after they've had drinks on them and have cleaned out some of my lights when they've started to look a bit dim. But thats it. Everything else is flightcased so stays pretty clean apart from needing dust wiping off sometimes, I don't go to the length of opening everything up to clean it.

Everything gets a wipe over after setting up at a wedding and then a full clean and service twice a year. Tub of screen cleaner cloths in the van for wiping lenses and mirrors as and when required.

Just thought I would add.

My old man uses this stuff at his work to clean parts before they are installed. I use this stuff on all my gear apart from the rack box insides. Its a foam and works wonders. :D

I'm always having to dust down my mixer because I use haze quite a lot and it seems to like attaching itself to my mixer.

Yep - used to use similar in the good ol' days when stuff came home stinking of fags and stale booze - somehow the pine smell was preferable :p

I like to keep my gear pristine too, but I don't think you realise how dusty it gets until you get it out in the cold light of day!

I find my Datamoons need constant cleaning due to the fact the fans blow air past the lenses....I clean them about about twice a month. The other lights get a clean every 6 weeks.

Most of my amps get cleaned every 6 months, the only exception are my T-amp2400's, they need the filters cleaning every month.

Speakers are given a new coat of Aldcrofts purple-infusion(FK1) every 6 months. :)

I'm amazed at how dusty my mixer & D2 get.

At the moment I clean them with a duster, but it's pretty long winded due to all the knobs & buttons.

Yeah - I got one of those too! Works a treat.

Also that compressed-air-in-a-can stuff gets right under the jog dials nicely :p And it clears any bits of crud trapped between the rubbery keys and the metalwork. :beer1:

Microfibre cloths - great for lights. Give everything a quick wipeover once setup. True what darren says - you often don't realise just how grubby things are.

I use a paint brush on mine everytime they have a trip out....seems to work fine here.:)

I would, but then I spend 6 hours cleaning my car so after that I don't go out because I don't want to get it dirty. lol.:o
