Following on from another thread, what are yours on a gig night? Do you eat before you leave, or en route, or do you partake of the buffet if offered?

Depends on the length of gig, but assuming your average 7-midnight I'll usually either have a large late lunch or an afternoon snack, nibble on the buffet if offered, then have something small-ish when I get home during the unwind time such as a bacon sarnie or a bowl of cereal.

I've had one too many "buffet tummies" over the years to take too much from the table - I'll usually go for something totally safe like a cheese sandwich or some crusty bread & butter.

On the day of a gig I don't eat after midday at all. The reason being is that I can get dodgy guts because I have mild IBS. I never eat anything from the buffet even if offered.

I always eat before I go out, and then usually grab something on the way home.

I'm rarely offered food, its starting to become the exception rather than the rule.

I always eat before leaving home but never eat at the gig in case I get hiccups---which could be very embarrassing as im on the mike all night.

As in swing your--hiccup--partner and---hiccup--- do si do---hiccup--your corner:eek:

On longer journeys I often have a coffee and munch a few choccie biscuits before driving home to keep my concentration at 100 per cent.

i never eat before a gig, only usually drink some coke just to keep on the go, and then usually have dinner after the end of the gig, order it and then go home and unload and by the time finished it's arrived.

At my regular hotel the staff always look after Jan and I plus during December its is a contract condition that we get a hot meal every night. At other gigs we generally have a snack before we leave (dont like setting up on a full stomach) and we are very often offered to partake of the buffet. If we dont then it is either grab something on the way home or more often fried egg sarnies when we get home.

I get offered occasionally, not very often though. I always politely decline.

I don't eat much before I go out, usually I'll have lunch around 2 ish, then won't eat until after the gig (usually around 1ish)

If I get offered food at the buffet I will usually just have a few bits after the main guests have eaten. When buffets are on I usually get asked, I reckon about 8 out of 10 and the ones that don't offer are usually too caught up in the night (so must be doing my job well then :D )

I find that most parties that i do i am always offered to help myself to something to eat from the buffett.

I still get a little nervous i guess, so I eat at lunch time, then have safe food from the buffet if offered, if not, sandwich when i get home, with a beer of course.

I tend not to eat at gigs but my roadie/asst DJ (as in my brother Lee!) seems to always pull a couple of packets of crisps and snickers bars from somewhere! He claims he needs the energy boost to set him up for the drive home!

Oops! Clicked the wrong button on the poll (well, I misread the question actually!).

I clicked never but, having read the question again, I think it should have been "Occasionally" as I do get offered but I always use the time that the buffet is on to set up the tracks for the second half of the gig which leaves little time for stuffing my face!

I'm really surprised at the number of people who have said that they eat when they get home.

Presumably this is in the early hours of the morning & just before they go to bed...not a good thing to do, apparantly.

If other DJs are like me, they will have a wind-down routine at the end of the night. If I come home and go to bed shortly afterwards, I tend to wake up with a stonking headache the next day.

When I started years ago, I was taught that if you get home, make a hot drink, something to eat and watch tv (on a quiet volume) for an hour or two then your body gets a chance to wind down properly and you wake up feeling much better. Always works for me (although I do tend to wait a couple of hours before hitting the sack!).

And it works especially well after a really good night when the adrenaline is still pumping when you get home and your body really does need to settle down.

...and if you paid attention to everything you hear or read.....what a boring life you would lead.........Oh wait a minute......:boxer2:.....:D :D :D

Sad as it may be, but I think this is a really interesting thread, as it gives us in an insight to how the other half live.....

I have never been to a gig where there has been a buffet and not been offered to have anything. One man got quite offended when I told him I was "fine thank you, and sufficient before I came" Which was lie but still.....

I don't normally eat before a gig, unless I pass a KFC or McDonalds. I never eat at a gig, because I have a werid thing about other people's food and germs....(it's silly really, but just the way I am, and have been since I was 0)

I will try and eat somthing when I get back, soup or light snack....

So far for me when Ive been out with my mate its been 100% a case of him asking if he could pinch a pasty (Cornish thing) of the buffet table, the customers always say absolutely help yourself as we were going to ask if you wanted something anyway.

I don't personaly have anything though as I tend to get bad heartburn from pastry after loading the van back up.
As a rule though I tend to just have something light before I go out and then grab something on the way home or raid the fridge when I get in.

I think stuffing my face with unhealthy food and tins of booze when I get home has something to do with it.

IF you were trying to control your weight then its a no no (my wife tells me)

You should eat at least 2 hours before going to bed and eat 5 hours between each meal according to the experts.

BUT only if your worried about your weight;)

Not seriously NO.

My wife has lost 3 stone ( about 2lbs every week) since the Summer through a specific diet plan (which cost me a lot) and a healthy eating program, its the same one Cliff Richard is using I think, which includes genetic testing for
metabolic rate etc.

If you want to lose weight you have to be serious.

Eating and drinking crap isnt the answer :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I know this:eek:

totally agree eating right and excersise ive dropped 3.5 stones since may not including the half a stone i got rid of in about an hour :D :D :D

2 of that was cutting out rubbish no crisps bread tea or coffee and the only alcohol was at leeds for the dj show.

im in the gym and pool 3-4 times a week and train with the rugby team 2 times a week for 5 hours total. ive got great results and it is pointless dieting !!!! you have to change the way you eat ........ permanently its a lifestyle change.

not eating will not make you lose weight either as the body just shuts down i have 4-5 small meals a day and sometimes feel like im making myself eat when i dont even want to im still dropping about 1kg a week - 10 days.

was 15 stone at the nadj show theres a picture on here somewhere im now 11.5.

I absolutely agree with you Dave, it HAS to be a lifestyle change.
By starving yourself, you're just encouraging your body to store fat (bad times)!
Little and often is the way to do it. :D

But try telling that to the ladies :bang:

I never understand why there are so many different diets out there.

The bottom line is if you want to lose weight, either eat less calories or take more exercise.

Alternatively, do both and you'll lose the weight even quicker.

It's not rocket science!

:)

Both of those option terrify me. Put them both together and it's torture. :D

My problem is that I know what I SHOULD do...but I just have great difficulty putting it into practice...as those who've met me will confirm!

it is very very hard to do unless you "set your stall out" so to speak when i cut out all the rubbish for about a week or two i had bad cravings for sweets and chips etc but just stuck to it.... now i use my own aversion therapy lol if im bored at home and think oohhh ill just have a chocolate bar , i will just walk to the shop and buy a news paper turn the need to eat into an excersise opportunity .

4-5 months later i don't even have sweets or chocolate if they are offered to me and the smell of the chippy now just makes me feel sick.

i recently watched a documentary on how sausages are made .......... i will never ever be eating another one ever !!!! how it is possible to eat one and actually survive i have no idea????

a big side effect is i have become really intolerent of whingey overweight people , people who are happy with themselves thats cool and a brilliant place to be , but those on documentaries who sit and say "ooohh ive tried this and that and the weight just won't come off" ............ have you tried eating less cakes ????? i doubt it!!! :D :D :D :D :D

the worst though are those that tell their doctor they cant understand why the weight isnt shifting as they go swimming 3 times a week.......... no you dont ............ ive seen you ........... you get in the pool chat to your equally overweight friend for 30-40 minutes and then get out

thats wet talking go look up what swimming is !!!! rant over :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :beer1: :beer1: :beer1: :beer1: :beer1:

the only reason i get so frought is 2 of my 3.5 stone loss i was in a wheelchair for no gym no swimming infact until august i couldnt even get to the post box at the end of the street to post a letter ...... it was purely modifying what i ate ........... there is more ways than one to skin a cat ........ if you hate excersise modify your eating to your lifestyle , at the start i probably was eating about 1000 calories a day ...... in the scheme of things far too low by at least 500 calories but ......... i was sat at the pc 8-5 posting on here mainly so not really getting out of breath that much.
