Still had to think about it as it cost me a small fortune (I also have 6 points :o )

Business use - not worth the risk. It only cost me an extra £6 a year.

They don't half hike the price when declaring you are a DJ. A lot would not give me a quote.

I found a similar thing when applying online, as soon as the business use comes up, they won't quote online, they say you need to ring them :(

[edit] I will be interesting to see how many people vote as uninsured or social domestic & pleasure? i.e. voting as 'I'm breaking the law'

Car and trailer insured for business use, third party only on the trailer. Im 24 and it only added an extra £120 to the policy, well worth it for the peice of mind, and it's only half a disco's work!

I'm with Admiral and have found them to be the chepest - 3 years NC and no points helps!

Fully insured with the car and as far as I know the trailer is covered, I will have to double check.
When I asked them they said it didn’t need to be noted on the policy.

How can you make that comment when you don't know how many years no claims etc etc?

With no DJing for the foreseeable future - and only one under my belt - I'm holding off for a bit, insurance cost me enough with a foreign license as it was.

Am I right in saying that the added premium to pay for vehicle insurance in these circumstances is due to a higher risk that your vehicle may be broken into or stolen whilst in busines use.
Is there any other risk that this added premium covers?

I would presume so. The fact that we're driving home late at night after long hours could be a contributing factor too. I know how tired I am during long drives in the wee hours of the morning.

Renewed mine last week. Have been with Norwich Union for 11 years, the renewal this year came in at £255.00 so had a look around via various comparision web sites and some of the price were silly money - RAC £122.00, but when you look closely it's another £20 for legal cover, then £25.00 for no claims protection so on and so forth, ended up with a bill for £205.00 all in including europian cover, and they list Mobile Disc Jockey, so no lying and the company that does such a great deal..................SAGA!!!! The joys of being the wrong side of 50 :)

I was once told that we were more likely to carry celebrities in our vehicles and their claims would be higher. What twaddle. Personally I think that many years ago they lumped us in with other entertainers who do have a ppor claims record and they have never bothered to review it. I think it is fair to expect a higher premium if you have a bad history but at one time I was on a 100% loading and then maximum no claims bonus. It just didnt seem right.

So it's not insured for disco use then? I'd check if I was you Karl. You could be on shaky ground there if you had to claim.

Would be a nightmare - our family car is a MGZS with the 2.5 v6 engine. Most companies would not even entertain. I have put down am a photographer and not mentioned DJ. I never use it for discos but would of liked it properly insured 'just in case'. Disco vehicle is fully insured for disco business though.

I am having the same problem but with my focus. They dumped an extra £1000 on for buisnes use because I would be driving out at night because I might be a boy racer. Errr....no. When I'm lugging my rather expensive gear about I do take extra care when driving. leaving more space than usuall as in bigger braking distance and taking speed hump at 5mph.

an extra £1000

Ouch!

My entire van insurance (yes, for disco use :p ) with top-of-the-range breakdown cover is £118 this year. That's fully comp with all the bells & whistles too.

Well after a £70 cashback from Quidco it was anyway.

But even so, less than £200 all in ... bargain :beer1: :beer1: :beer1:

Probably and, er, yes :)

Well £50 is a bit of a push but it's probably not worth much more than a grand :p

Area definitely comes into it; my main car despite being quite rare, LHD etc. costs less than £200 to insure yet others on an enthusiasts forum I belong to struggle to get it for under £400 with some city areas well over £1000.
