I had sent an email to a prospective client about a teenage party and she had already said she wanted a younger trendy DJ, so I told her the DJ we use for teenage parties is young and trendy looking.

She then came back and asked for a biography and photo!

The lady did work for an events company, so I suppose if she was placing a DJ in a club or whatever it might be more of an issue.

Has this ever happened to you?

We have had requests like this for big Corporate Events involving Line Dance Callers---although I havent been offering my services personally.

No need for me to worry, my picture is on my website--and I have countless video clips to show clients--- so they know exactly what to expect:eek:

Strangely im still getting bookings---but not at teenage parties:D :D :D

I believe it is important to look credible, for teen discos & 18ths etc my 17yr old roadie takes control of the kit and I stand back producing him (totally controlling what he plays :D)........works a treat, he gets all the praise for a fantastic set and I get the money! :approve:

Have had a wedding enquiry where the potential client asked if we could meet. I went round to their house and as soon as I got in they said it was ok and would like to book me. They were in their 40's and wanted to check I wasn't too young. They never checked what music I played just if I looked old enough.

My son helps me at a lot of gigs. He is only 8 years old but does the start of the evening if we are entertaining the kids (weddings and other family gigs). We have got a lot of kid party bookings where they have said they would like the young dj as their son/daughter would prefer it.

i never do anything trendy so it hasnt been an issue, although i am sure that if I did it also wouldnt be an issue.

Whilst I'm 35 I find I can generally still get away with it for 18ths and 21sts (not for much longer, I'm sure).

How many people book a DJ without seeing him. I think they listen to him first on the phone and make a judgement call form that. :)

Yeah, it's time I got a website, so Darren can send an email asking how much we charge up here. I'm adding a 20% surcharge in advance of that. I'm looking forward to charging £25 a gig. :D :D

Out of interest......when you say teenage...what age is that....yes, I know it will be 13 to 19......

If it was 17 / 18....I wouldn't do it anyway....:)

... Everything matters.

My 17-year-old son fronts the majority of teen gigs even if I choose the music and press all the buttons :p

Actually he is improving (slowly) despite having zero interest in taking up the family business. He's also pretty handy for deciphering the names of the material being requested as even though we carry the majority of it I tend to find that the names don't "stick" well in my memory... this facility is normally reserved for music that I actually like :)

This thread proves that looks (and age) clearly DO matter to some clients, or the person concerned wouldn't have asked Darren for a young & trendy DJ, or asked for their photo & details!

Why did Darren post the question then if the answer is in his own thread?

If I wanted a DJ for a Teen Event, I wouldnt be bothered what they looked like as long as they could do the job.

I can see why some clients would ask though.

Wanting a young trendy DJ is more for the girls benefit.
I know when I started DJing my boss always gave me the younger gigs to do coz he knew the girls loved chatting up the DJ's.
