Ipod betters my quote

Quoted for a wedding next year, accepted, sent off booking form and didn't hear anything for a month. Contacted them and they said sorry but finances are a bit tight they are now going to use an ipod :bang: :bang: :bang:

Should I:

A. Reply with a kind thankyou and wish them well for the wedding.
B. Not Reply
C. Let them know what they are letting themselves in for.
D. A & C

Offer them PA & lighting hire :) Already had one of those this year, they enquiried too late to get a DJ anyway and indicated that they wanted to choose all the music, so I quoted them for a couple of lights and a PA system.

As it happened, my gig cancelled on that night (with full payment) so I just used my own system and didn't have to buy anything especially, which was my original intention.

Depends on the circumstances, some people just want small intimate weddings with background music, and maybe the odd song where people might dance. It may not even be a case of their budget either, as we all know you can get DJs for less than the cost of hiring the gear to play an iPod through anyway.

Its got to be option A really. That way your not going to rub them up the wrong way, and they'll respect you for still wishing them well.
Who knows, they might have family or friends looking for a DJ, and might suggest you.

And as you say they may decide to have a party and book a DJ next time, maybe for their first wedding Anniversary.

It was a Friday in April as well, so would of been a good booking to have.

I did an IPOD wedding a couple of months back.
They just hired my kit and me to set it up and then plugged in the grooms IPOD.

I obviously did a better price as all I was doing was working the lights.

Why dont you do the same ?

So, make sure you take to the groom AND bride !

If your getting plenty of work then just let the IPOD gig slip otherwise a gig is a gig and is better than being sat at home earning nothing.

If it were me I would have rather stayed at home or charged them the same amount for being there whether I was actually DJing myself or they were using the equipment. It's my time they pay for.

When I quoted for the job I was told they didnt want a DJ chatting all night and they just wanted to work the IPOD themselves. They said I could sit in the bar all night.

After I realised they werent very bright I decided to sit with the gear to keep an eye on things and worked the lights to stop getting bored.

What upset me was they got a cheap quote without a DJ and when I got there the bride wanted a DJ without paying any more. The bride and groom clearly hadnt communicated on the disco. I bet he got some earache when she got him home as he was just a tight wad.

I know Rob and have nothing against them. Works as a HD and backup player well enough. But just wonder for the B&G, things such as cueing up the First dance and as we DJ's do welcoming them to the floor, etc.

Then I will explain. I said I do dozens of ipod weddings each year. I've done 13 ipod discos so far this year. There are 12 in a dozen.

Therefore, a higher number than 12 is more than a dozen, and when you have more than one of something, you normally add the letter "s" to the end of the word to signify this.

In other words, more than one is plural (I found this dictionary definition of plural "consisting of, containing, or pertaining to more than one"), and when describing something which is plural, the letter "s" is usually added to the end of the word. 13 is more than a dozen, hence my use of the word dozens.

Apart from that, the year is not over yet, and I still have a number of (ipod) weddings to do anyway.

Dave,

The plural (when you add the s) simply means more than one, but doesn't have to refer to a whole number.

Therefore, you don't have to wait until you have 24 of something before you can use the word dozens.

The word "plural" (when you add the s) doesn't mean two or more, but simply more than one.

actually the definition i just looked up had 2 meanings the first said more than one set of something . ie. more than one set of a dozen .....

the other just said ..... a large amount of something so i guess everybody is right and the english language sucks.

To address this, dozens being a plural of dozen, plural being more than 1 ie 2 or more. Dozen being 12, 2 or more times 12 being 24, 36, 48 etc...

My issue was with the phrase "I do dozens" coming at a time when it cannot possibly be factually accurate. It would imply that it is a regular occurance, when in fact so far 13 gigs have taken place.
