what do you lot think of the laptop deals where you get the mobile broardband and the laptop is free ( but its not really free )
just thinking as i need a laptop but havent got 500 pounds to shell out at the moment but 35/40 pounds a month dont seem to bad
but i need a laptop that does an extra screen for for karaoke 3 gig of ram and about 300/320 gig hd
anyone know any good laptop deals

Go down to Carphone Warehouse if you are wanting Mobile Broadband, If not maybe go to PC world and ask about their fincance deals.

Try www.laptopsdirect.co.uk . Have just bought 2 laptops off them this week and they are buy now pay 12 months. Great delivery as well.
If you work out the true price of these 'free laptop' deals you actually pay almost the same as purchasing seperate

If your with T-Mobile then it's an extra £10 per month for mobile broadband.

I'd get a laptop on credit, much more option and better range of components

i use a laptop and so bought one that would suit the needs for use only with my disco. these free ones wont have the spec you require and to upgrade is where they get you on the price. www.ebuyer.com is where i bought mine from. But remember that you will need a external sound card and possibly a 2 channel mixer if you want to be able to listen live to the decks playing and lining up the next song

i got a free DELL laptop from AOL a year ago and its been absolutely brilliant.

Id say beware the ones being given away in the deals though. check the compatibility for DJing first.

Some offers sell the ACER ones, which, as decent as they are as a laptop, make a horrendous hissing noise if you plug from headphone socket to the PA. and are not suitable for DJing. I bought one as a backup and regretted it. youll need an external soundcard to eliminate the hissing if you get one of those.

just put a inline noise surpressor and it will fix that hissing

I can agree with this as I have used an Acer Travelmate as my second machine for a while. It's not such a big problem as the SoundBlaster 5.1 external USB soundcard fixes the problem.

It's 42 megabyte.

It is free...apart from the joining fee of £18 for the first month, £42 for the second month & £48 for the next 360 months.

When Carphone Warehouse did the first free Dell laptop with the broadband contract over 24 months, it worked out that you actually bought the laptop and got two years of broadband service for just over £20 so, to be fair, it's not a bad offer. I suppose it's probably better to think that its buying a laptop over 2 years and get the broadband free as this would be more accurate.

I've been looking at some of these offers over the last few days and they seem to follow pretty much the same path.

Hya mate, a friend of mine has just got one of the Acer laptops free as a mobile phone deal.
He is using for karaoke, he has bought an external sound card and a good quality ground loop isolator and is actualy pretty good.
I was a bit sceptical at first with being a so called freebie but in all honesty I cant fault it other than requiring a ram upgrade as its running vista and the minimum requirements for vista is 1GB, so advised to get some more as a precaution.

He did originaly get the buzzing noise when plugged in to the headphone but since getting the sound card and ground looper its Crystal clear.

The way we have sussed how to do karaoke is about as simple as it gets.
He now simply goes to the drive via "my computer" and opens at the first level were all the files are located on the external drive, then types title or artist in the search bar top right corner "on vista" which then only searches the actual drive with the karaoke on and up pop the tracks hes looking for.
All he has to do then is click on the audio track part and up it pops in winamp full screen.
The laptop has proven to be more than enough for what he is doing.
