New Lighting

I'm currently in the middle of upgrading my lightshow and can't decide what effect to get to replace my 2 mushroom effects with.

My current lightshow is:
Mushroom - Puma - ImpossiabLED - Puma - Mushroom

I'm after something that will add light and color to any room that can be used for any occasion whether its an 18th b'day or a 80th b'day, weddings to karaoke. I would like it to be DMX. preferable LED but needs to work well with my existing effects. Haven't got the biggest budget for this with a very maximum price of £300

I've been looking into this for the last few weeks and this is my top 2 idea:

2x Acme 250W Dynarock (£119each)

Pro's: Wide beam angle, Bright & Sharp, Movement, All lighting would be Acme.
Con's: Non LED Effect, Beams could go in peoples eyes.

2x American Dj Mystic Led (£99.99each)

Pro's: Very wide coverage, LED, Same type of effect as currently using.
Con's: No visible movement, Could blind people, Could over power existing ImpossibLED.

Whats effect do you think would be best to go with my setup and why? Is there any other effect i should look at that fills my brief?

My general-purpose rig consists of:

Laser - Dynaroll - Datamoon - Impossibled - Nebula - Datamoon - Dynaroll - Laser

The Dynaroll is the twin Dynarock.

For weddings I typically lose the two lasers (keep the Nebula though); add a mirror ball and two moving heads (on their flightcases, on the floor).

This gives me the maximum flexibility in terms of slow, mid-tempo, disco and clubby feel.

For predominantly younger audiences I'll lose the datamoons and replace with lasers.

I also have a couple of LED lightbars that I use in darker rooms or if we're videoing and placement of these depends on the room.

This combination was arrived at after much fussing and faffing and I'm now pretty happy with it.

So my vote is the Dynarock or Dynaroll - and no, if positioned correctly they don't blind people. I think I saw these a few £££ cheaper in the current CPC catalogue but couldn't swear on it.

How long does the strobe affect go on for on the Dynarock, or can you stop the strobe from coming on?.

I run mine either with a CA8 or under full DMX.

With the CA8 you can omit the strobing (although don't ask me how :p ... I use it as an on/off/speed control and that's about it) - when it does happen it's usually only for a few seconds and I wouldn't exactly call it 'strobing' in the true sense, more rapid flashing.

Thanks VV. out of interest how far can the barrel spin? is it capable of spinning 360 in each direction? I'm guessing the Gobo's on all the Dyna series are the same in each type of unit.

Barrel left/right is about 160 degrees (any more is not needed unless you want to project light into the back of the unit) and rotationally 360 degrees.

Gobos are the same across the variants, yes.

They can be angled anything from 90 degrees to the floor all the way down to parallel with the floor. I probably have mine at about 65 degrees to get full dancefloor coverage without hitting the audience full on. Depends where they're sitting.

They are one of the brightest 250W halogen effects I've seen; comparable with the iMove heads for sure.

I use one in very small venues but usually a pair for anything up to several hundred guests.

Put it this way, I bought one with the intention of using it as a centerpiece (pre ImpossibLED) and was so impressed on first use I immediately bought another (and a double flightcase).

Just took at look at the pictures on your website VV. Very impressive, they look at home on your rig. they almost sold them selfs just by your photos.

Seems the Dynarock could be a strong possibility.

The mystics are very good and work well with the impossibled, even pointing in the same area! I use both at the same time but can all be individually switched. the only thing with the mystics is i would reccomend some type of controller, as if they run on stand alone mode they spin fast, slow, strobe etc. etc. etc. regardless of the music tempo! my rig at present consists of mystic - laser-tango-impossibled-quad gem-laser - mystic . . . with 2 moving heads on the floor! One very big room filler is the Soundlab Vorma triple derby light which is 900 watts. I have been in some very big rooms and it reached the back walls very well.

As you may have read on the other "lighting" thread going at the moments I'm being more and more pushed in the direction of the Mystic LED. especially after a look on the youtube.

What is the best way to control the unit? is there a hand held controller for it or is it only controllable via full DMX controllers?

Reading the post above leads me to believe that the Mystic LED can spin at different speeds. Is this correct? Out of all the mushroom effects I've ever used I've never come across one with variable speed to control the spinning arms.

Also it has been said that the unit has 4 channels. What are these used for?

1 - Rotating arm (left/right)
2 - Pattern/Colour
3 - Blackout/Strobe
4 - ????

Am i anywhere near close???:confused:
