When do you get paid ?

I was wondering when most people get paid for a gig.

Obviously most discos take a booking fee/deposit then get paid the balance on the night.

Do you get paid before you start, during the gig or at the end of the night ?

Some people on here have Credit and Debit card facilities, I don't as yet but may do in the future for people that want to pay up front in one go etc. I generally take a £50.00 non-refundable booking fee with the rest of the balance payable 7 - 10 days in advance of the function. I don't take payments on the night.

Luckily no one has refused or asked for a discount coz they werent happy, yet !

Before, but most pay earlier. I always suggest to brides to pay earlier as it will be less to remember on the day.

I find it easier, more convenient and safer for me and my clients. I used to hate chasing people out the door 'cos they forgot to pay me. I also find that people don't want to have to carry round numerous cheques or cash for different suppliers. They've got better things to do with their time, like enjoy themselves.

I once, back in the 80s, had a walker and vowed never again.

So now its full payment in advance for late bookings (within 14 days) or booking fee (£50/£100 depending on total rate) then the balance by cheque 14 days prior to the gig, bank transfer or online payment 5 days prior, or cash in hand before we unload the van on the night.

I always make a point of walking the customer through this and in case they didn't understand it's clearly spelled out on its own page in the booking pack.

No problems since!

Like others I "suggest" to Bs & Gs that they might want to sort out payment at the planning meeting to, erm, 'give them one less thing to worry about on the day'. And the vast majority do :o

I also have a couple of regular corporate customers who I invoice on 30 day terms and they're good payers so no reason not to continue this. It's always nice to get a juicy cheque halfway through January :p

If a customer wants to tip you, they'll tip you whether they've already paid you or not. If they want to come over and chat at the end then they will.

Don't be so nice! Otherwise someone will rip you off somewhere along the line...

Off topic (well sort of) - I know it's been done before but would like to have the facilty to be able to let the customers pay up front via paypal or another option......can't find the thread....:o ....can anyone help?

14 days before by cheque usually, but sometimes people pay by BACS.

Hoping to go down the debit/credit card payment route very soon, just waiting till I have a spare £100 to join the FSB.. as I can't find a better deal than the one through them.

allways before i start, unless a pub landlord is paying us, then at the end of the night, as they cant run off and never to be seen agian in a flash..
