I'm trying to find ways of reducing the number cables i need running up my light stand and as i may soon be moving into a complete DMX show i will no longer need to have my lighting individually switched as it will be controlled via DMX.

So i was thinking instead of having 5 individual IEC extension leads running down my lighting stand and into my 8 way lighting switch i could replace it with one of these:
http://www.russandrews.com/product-IEC-extension-kit-1170.htm

This would only require 1 power cable running up my stand and 1 DMX lead.

Am i right in saying this will save alot of time and effort while cutting down the amount cables running up my lighting stand?

Will this work and be able to cope with power needed to run upto 6 lighting effects and stage effects?

This maybe a simple and straight forward question but i just wanted to ensure it would be safe and up to doing the job.

Thanks in advance:)

Darren posted something similar but better than this on the forum a couple of months ago, can't remember what is was though, wouldn't mind seeing it again if you can remember Darren.

Yep that'd work but the total load couldn't exceed 10A (the rating of the input IEC).

Allowing for 'inrush' when you power them all on, 6 effects at say 250W should be fine. If you have any LED stuff then you're definitely OK with one of these.

A cheap, tidy solution. But take a look on CPC - they usually have stuff like this much cheaper - in fact I think I've seen these at around a tenner. They also sell moulded IEC leads in various lengths from 0.5m to 10m starting at under a quid - much more resilient than make-your-own.

Thanks for the info.

I've had a look on CPC but couldn't find anything like this:(

By the time i go DMX i should have 3 LED effects (1xImpossiabLED and 2x Mystic LED) so that should help:).

Will be looking at CPC for some shorter IEC cables shortly to suit this project.

If anyone else can find it on CPC i would be very great full as I'm having real problems navigating their website:(

Edit:
Found the following but its only 6A

Hi There
I currently use 2 of these linked together to power 4 x dynamo 250, martin raptor and a nebula laser.

CPC IEC Block (http://cpc.farnell.com/PL00823/electrical-lighting-security/product.us0?sku=schurter-r47470000&_requestid=154561)

Hope thats what you're looking for

a 5 gang one of these would be ideal for me- anyone know anyone else who sells them at less than the cpc price- a 5 gang seems to be £25 whilst a 4 gang is £10
I could buy 2 of the 4 gang but then they arent as tidy,

Thanks for the links guys. I'm very interested in the CPC extension.

Only problem is it doesn't have any details about it's load or capacity but if your running 5 halogen lights and a laser I'm sure it will be plenty for what i need it for.

Will be looking into 2 of these in the next week or so when i get the DMX sorted.

Thanks again:approve:

Both look excellent. Most suited to anyone with standalone lights, rather than DMX.

I have to agree with you Peter, if running DMX why would they need switches?

That's why they're looking for the simple Multiway IEC block. Their only issue is power handling, unless they're all LED or nearly all. ;) ;)

From first post:

"i will no longer need to have my lighting individually switched as it will be controlled via DMX.":D :D :D

From 4th post:

But only 2 of these LED units will have the capability to be daisy chained (ie. Mystic LED's).

I thank you for that clarification, but my badly worded post used the concept "Their" as opposed to "His", implying a general need, as opposed to a specific one of only one person. Yes I had indeed read what you had put, which is why I posted in General terms, rather than your specific case.
