DMX light control software ??? Need Help

Hi,

I have some basic doubts regarding the Sunlite Suite, PC based dmx light control software. Their manuals are horribly written even though the software is quite capable. If theres someone here using the same software and can help members like me out with some basic doubts it will be really helpful. Thanks.

Oops. What an unpopular software Sunlite must be. There seems to be nonone using it. Anyways then can i at least know how many of us are using PC software based dmx light control. If so which software and have you had crashes during a live show ?

Have a go with http://americandj.com/ProductDetails.aspx?Category=&ItemNumber=1773 , it`s easy to use.
Even I can work it so the lights work, and I cannot even spell DMX :D :D
The only downside is the 3D visualization, it eats system resource`s, but then again I use the built in graphics card on the motherboard.

Ive found Daslight good. Looks very similar to the ADJ product. Have a look on www.daslight.com One of the nightclubs in Carlsile where ive covered uses it and my local club looks like it could well be getting it too.

Hi Daryl > Thanks for your inputs. Unfortunately i bought sunlite roughly a year ago and havent got to use it at all. Ive got a good system to run it on however. 3.6 ghz dual core, 2 gb ram, nvidia graphics (256 vram), firewire etc. Ive experienced maybe 1 crash so far while trying to learn the software. Apart from this the only pain is its got an illogical interface and a very bad manual. I want to learn how to use it properly and was also wanting to know how software solutions hold up in real life shows. But unfortunately i cant ditch it and reinvest in another software since ive not even used it enough to warrant the money spent. Have you had any crashes during a show ?

Got me thinking now. I dont think so. Having just checked each company has a different head office...however the hardware (and software to some extent) look suspicously similar :confused:

use the sunlight dongle with the easy stand alone program from the sunlight website (if it will work with your dongle), basically the same as adj mydmx and daslight, very easy to use

But they are using the same software backbone of sunlite. The Sunlite developers have done the same for Compuware by elation also. In fact their earlier versions used to give a plugin known as DAS.ocx for the 3d feature to run properly. Also ive seen the digital art systems thing mentioned somewhere inside their previous versions. Its too strong a feeling for me to be mistaken.

Blitz > I have the EC version with the official dongle which is better than Easy Stand Alone. But i admit ESA is more logical and easy to use though lacking in several features. It has no music triggering etc. Thats why i decided to buy the EC class. ESA is more cut out for architectural lighting applications. But again. Extremely simple to use with just 1 read of the manual.

Have you guys used your respective software with moving heads ? What do you feel about timing problems for example a moving head in a 3d visualizer might turn faster compared to the real fixture right. Heads are usually slugish. But in a software environment the head can be made to turn instantly ala scanners. So this will cause the scene to run a few seconds behind the commands that are actually being sent to to light ?....Sorry if im being dumb about understanding this. I spent 2 years learning 3ds max. A software thats 100 times more complex and intricate than Sunlite. But im still not able to master Sunlite. I guess its because of all the wrong english and innappropriate words used in the interface. Will you believe the fact that the software actually responds to errors by saying "SOME LITTLE PROBLEM WAS FOUND" :bang:

Ive not had the (dis?)pleasure of using moving heads with the software yet. Some little problem, eh...sounds like the whole think is a ball ache. The closest problem i found was building the truss etc for nightclub. Very time consuming but other than that ive no problems. But, ive not used it for anything overly complicated.

But overall from my understanding of the software. Its very versatile and has enormous capabilities. But whats the use. They created a high end product and mucked up the interface to the best of their ability. Imagine having the worlds most powerful operating system but only thing the interface was in korean. What use will it be other than to the koreans of-course. Sunlite was written by a bunch of frenchies. 'Some little problem happened, answer - oui or uhhh ?'.

Its just occured to me, and i apologise if this sounds bad, but have you canged the language to english? It took me a while to realise the default setting was french but when i did it became a lot easier.

Hi Steve, I checked that right in the beginning. Its english alright. I mean thier version of english that is. In fact if it was in set to french it wouldnt say "some little problem happened right ? :)
