I am starting this thread to see who on the forum is divorced, seperated or generally on their own because of the entertainment industry.
I am not married, have never been married but I have many friends within the entertainment industry, not just DJ's but comedians, band members, singers etc that are divorced or have troublesome relationships.
What I am getting at is, does this industry seem to suffer more with failed marriages duo to late nights, trust issues etc etc.
Do you think Entertainers generally feel the need to be loved and liked on and off stage, their insecuritys kick in and they end up in the arms of other women to boost their ego's. And of coarse there are times when it is on a plate for them. Or do entertainers end up with the wrong women because they met them on a gig and the woman liked the idea of pulling the guy on stage but once the honeymoon period is over they realise he is a normal guy who burps and farts like everyone else?

I think there are 2 types of entertainer, one type just like the entertaining others part and generally get a buzz from knowing they have that ability, and the other type are the ones who love them selves and generally get a huge buzz from the attention they get.
You can generally tell the ones who love themselves as they are generally full of thick gold, shirt unbuttoned and love the sound of there own voice :D
I personaly like playing the music and the being behind the decks part and not really interested in other women or for that matter fellas or farm animals :D
Also been with my Mrs. since school almost at 22 years now, she can be a real pain but id never trade her in :)

Thirteen years last week for me. Very happily married and the job has never affected us as a family.
I did my playing around when I was younger and have no intention of losing what I have now.
Having said that, all the DJs I trained with years ago were all messing around with other women and all ended up divorced and remarried several times and that's something I swore I'd never do.

Happily married 23 years, 24 in February. Pretty much like Daz with the same principles. My family is first to me in every way.
Perhaps that's another reason Daz and I get on so well? :boy_hug:

I must be doing something wrong :D :D
I am lucky that my wife supports my work and wherever possible I have family helping - my son is 8 and dj's at kids parties and seems to get more repeat bookings than me.
I have said many times before that no job or career is worth risking your famly for.

I've been with the little lady for (almost) 14 years. The job I do has never been an issue.

I've had over fifteen happy years with my wife. Out of thirty married, I'll settle for that. :D :D :D :D
I'm sorry, it's Pavlov's Dogs. You set 'em up, I'll knock 'em down. ;)

I'm happily single...and always have been.
Things are less complicated that way, as well as being cheaper.
Also, by not being married, I don't have to worry about being forced to give away half of everything I've worked my wotsits off to get as soon as it all goes pear shaped.

Well I have a girlfriend, who I am very happy with, but marriage would be a prospect in the distant future really. I also have a joint mortgage on the house with my brother, which complicates things further :)

I'm a realist, Excalibur...I look at things how they ARE, not how I'd LIKE them to be in the perfect world.
My opinion is based on what's happened to LOTS of people I know, as well as the fact that somewhere between a third and half of all marriages end in divorce...and that doesn't account for the couples who stay together "for the sake of the children" which in my opinion is NOT a valid reason for a couple to stay together.

Wahey, do I get another badge? I've prompted Rob to post a valid, reasoned, cogent and serious argument, backed up by facts. :D :D
OK Rob I'll be serious as well. I know very few people my age who are in their first marriage. :( I know a lot more on two or three. :( :( It's not always easy, and I'm very thankful for what I've got. Kids like mine are very special.
Right, that's enough of that, let's wind somebody up. :D

Although I'm only 15, I can comment to the discussion by saying my parents are divorced, and it hasn’t affected massively the way I live. Quite a lot has happened in my family (especially parents) but you learn as you get older, to overcome such problems. It’s happened, nothing will change...deal with it.

It's little wonder you're single with an attitude like that!
Things aren't cheaper if you are single by the way. Mortgage, light, heat etc etc divided by 2 is a lot cheaper.

You can't blame me for having the attitude I do, Darren.....as it's based on the actual experiences of a number of my friends who have got the t-shirt!

If you are both working, that may be true, although I guess it depends on your individual circumstances & on what the other person earns.
I have no mortgage anyway, I would lose my council tax single occupant discount and I only run & therefore pay for one vehicle...so if I was married or living with someone, I don't think things would be much different financially.

Ah yes, but the determinedly unattached, like Mr J, are unlikely to acquire those expensive things which put a crimp in your social activities, eat you out of house and home, bring home the strangest collection of reprobates you've ever seen in your life, and require a dedicated Taxi service. ;) ;) ;)

The guy who gave me my first opportunity to be a real mobile DJ has been divorced twice so I can see how the job can affect relationships.
But then again, I think it's more down to the individual than the business because it's not hard to do the job we're being paid for and then go home to the family we love (just like any other job). I adore my partner and our kids and I wouldn't want it any other way!

Indeed!

I'm just wondering how many divorced DJs would still have got divorced if they had a completely different occupation.
Probably the vast majority.
After all, the figure of a third to half of all marriages which end in divorce relates to all occupations...not just DJs.
I can think of a fair few occupations which are probably more likely to lead to divorce than DJs.
I may have only been with my other half for just over 4 years but my work does not get in the way of our relationship. She understands that I have to work to bring in the money. We both have 100% trust in each other.
She has to work long days and I have to work evenings, but in return I make sure we have money and nice things to have. :)
