Too difficult to read.

If I didn't know that name, I'd never guess what it was and the C should be a capital letter too.

Well put it this way i can't read the text.

The top text the font is tricky to read and the bottom font color clashes with the background making it hard to read.

It's ok, I'm just not a big fan of fancy fonts!
I like to keep it simple, yet appealing to the eye.

My new logo is black and white with a solar eclipse in the corner. IMO it looks classy and is easy to read. Obviously with things like logo's & banners, it's a personal choice, if you're happy with it, fine! :D

Once mine is 'perfected' I'll be adding it below!

But if everyone who has posted so far either can't read it or have to look really hard to read it, classic or not, it's not good.

You asked for our views, that's what we're giving.
You should know by now, most people on here like to give 'constructive' criticism. If you can't take it or don't like it, dont ask. Simple!

am not sure who no.2 is, maybe tone will know :D :D :D , i was going to add some light busts to the banner, but that made it look way over board, so i opted for a basic buttonize effect. which i must admit makes it look complete.

i am going to put a dot in their, but thats not my business name its dcornell leisure, this wont effect it in any way will it ?

This is a valid point. You have to show or say what/who made you number 1.

Even if you paid for the right to use Number 1 you do have to show it somewhere.

It's a £5k fine from Trading Standards otherwise.

We are fully insured for any venue and hold £2M public liability.

surly this is an over statement ?

dont start picking flauts with my spelling because am picking flauts with your "website"

whats wrong with pli that stands for public liability insurance or didnt you know this ?

ppentertainments, as reguards to your post, i wish to keep it as d cornell for the simple fact as, when i have a son, which his name will be damian, named after me, which then the name would probley become d cornell & son leisure.

That's a simple one, I can cater for that kind of themed event were a more specialised knowledge is required in that genra/s.
In basic that's the main type of music I have been in to for the past 25+ years so have a half decent knowledge in the area.

Most of the time if a mixed crowd when they say we "want rock music" its generally the more mainstream stuff such as Bon Jovi, Guns n Roses, Whitesnake possibly a choice of a couple from them and such as a couple of tracks that work well from AC/DC.
It may be they don't want that kind of rock but more the alternative kind such as Offsprind, Kaiser Cheifs, Green Day etc. its a huge area

There has to be a reason why you think your #1 so what do you tell the customer when they ask what makes you #1
No matter what you put its got to be credible to some degree and you have to at least be able to answer why your #1 above your competitors.

A1DL

do you think the banner is alright ?

Damian, my 2p's worth:

The banner is "alright" as in it is legible, does not carry any mis-spellings and is within the size constraints permitted on this forum.

However, as far as usefulness goes, it is about as good as a chocolate teapot since it does not offer any way for a potential customer to contact you, it doesn't hyperlink to a website, it says nothing about your geographical area of coverage or the service you offer, other than your self-certified opinion of being "No.1" in your field.

If as a potential customer I Google you, all I find is a few links to MDD forum debates posted by yourself. No website, no listings in business directories, phone directories, nothing! If I check Companies House, you're not listed, therefore are not a company, yet you claim to be "No.1 for Leisure", "Nationwide coverage" etc.

If I was a potential customer I would quickly smell the bull and look elsewhere. Even the smallest sole traders usually have plenty of listings on online directories.

As I say, that's just my 2p

No, but you couldn't have the personal opinion that your business was the best unless you knew EVERYTHING about all the competition...which is simply not possible. That's MY point, Shaun.

It's all just advertising speil, and big name companies have been doing it for years.

As far as I'm aware, there are strict rulkes about what you can & can't say in your advertising.

Fair enough. :)

At the end of the day, I really don't mind how others advertise their services. I recall that Rob recently had to defend certain wording on his site. In the past I've had to defend wording on my site. And here again we have another member having to defend their wording. Does it really matter? The fact that he states he's No.1 is really not that significant or worth debating as far as I can see. The vast majority of the public will see it for what it is. Advertising speil, nothing more nothing less.

Banner looks good... Simple and says what it needs two as well

To is a preposition which begins a prepositional phrase or an infinitive.

Too is an adverb meaning "excessively" or "also."

Two is a number. Many other words in English which reflect the number two are spelled with tw: twin, twice, between, tweezers, etc.

Examples: We went to a baseball game. (preposition)

We like to watch a good ball game. (infinitive)

We ate too much. (meaning "excessively")

I like baseball, too. (meaning "also")

Six divided by three is two. (number)

They own two Brittany spaniels. (number)

To hopefully finally settle the "what you can and can't claim to be" argument: -

http://www.asa.org.uk/cap/about/cap_non_broadcast/
http://www.asa.org.uk/cap/advice_online/good_advertising/Good+Advertising+Checklist.htm

See the "substantiation" part of the 2nd link, which mentions these three sections of the code: -

Section 3 - Substantiation (http://www.cap.org.uk/cap/codes/cap_code/ShowCode.htm?clause_id=1489)
Section 6 - Honesty (http://www.cap.org.uk/cap/codes/cap_code/ShowCode.htm?clause_id=1500)
Section 7 - Truthfulness (http://www.cap.org.uk/cap/codes/cap_code/ShowCode.htm?clause_id=1502)

Basically, you should be prepared to provide supporting evidence of any claims you make. In reality, the likelihood is that Advertising Standards are not going to ask - but that shouldn't stop you making unsubstantiated claims. All it takes is for someone to complain and they'll look into it...

Interesting reading. Thanks for the links, Marc. :)

You're welcome, however I just noticed this on the first link I posted: -

These are the areas we don’t cover:

• TV and radio ads (covered by our Broadcast arm)
• Claims companies make on their websites

It only covers non-broadcasted adverts...which I'm guessing a banner would fall into but the website it leads to isn't covered...

There's bound to be a code somewhere for unsubstabtiated claims on websites (probably Trading Standards), and I guess I should really know about it, but I don't

Let me be blunt.

Its boring, bland and what's up with DJs being dark! Red, blue, green!?!? It screams for a three year old with paint!

I would not say "no 1" as there is always someone else out there better in one way or another.

Otherwise not bad. to the point.

Bit about SEO:
Forget about SEO and search engines and concentrate on what's really important, the people that read it.

hello, whats your views on my banner, i know its not "top notch", it should be once ive been over to my dads to use the other bits of software i have over at his place.

What do I think.......ummm.

It's clear enough but lacks punch.....it doesn't say what you do.
It's all on the right.....people read from left to right....maybe change them to the other way.
...what up with having the writing all in white....:)

I quite like the colours personally the only thing i don't like is the .... at the end , makes me think theres more that should be there but you ran out of space or couldn't think what should come next also i think centred would look nicer. but i like the font and colours used.

theirs many others at hull other than his, also we hopefully will see the return of albert evans, which rocked hull back in the 90's, which then i will be djing on his plus spiel, i dont just do waltzers, superbowls, major rides, i also operate them as a back up, am also going to offer this as a service for my business next year.

as regards to terry athas machine, yes kinda nice machine, but nothing compaired to what ive seen in my time, i have travelled as high up scotland and as low as dorset area.

Where do you find time to do £750 weddings then as fairs run pretty much all around the year as far as I know.
