8 effects lighting bar?

Just had this offer emailed from Maplins, does anybody know how good and how tricky these are for setting up?

I would stear well clear at that price.. no doubt it'll be made with all plastic fittings which probably won't even last a year. I really wouldn't scrimp and save when it comes to something like hanging lights.

i suspect the price says a lot

the top bit may be ok but the sides look a bit dodgy - plus it will look like a christmas tree- remember less is more.

Looking at the load capacity it doesnt look great. Each light would have to be no more than 5kg each. I looked at one ages ago and was informally told that the load rating isnt split equally. I think it was 30kg on the top bar and 5kg on each lower arm. Dont quote me though.

I brought one, all plastic fittings. just use mine for a mirror ball, thats it.
never used the lower arms.

Please Please Please Please Please Please Please Please DO NOT buy anything from Maplins. That stand is ok, but very amateur. It looks unprofessional and the arms bend very easily. It’s also very hard to hide your wires. Don't fall in the trap I did!

TBH I bought a couple of years ago but returned it as it was very unstable. Good idea but potentially dangerous

They are fine if you throw the lower arms away, as a Tripod + t-bar they are fine, lightweight and fairly robust.
I use them if I have tiny venues to do with a couple of Datamoons on and have used them on and off for 4 years without any issues....just bin the lower arms and don't put anything other than a couple of fixtures on each stand.

As said before, you can't generalise like that. Some gear is perfectly fine.
However, in this case, the T-max units are tiny, plastic, and low powered. I also believe you get Four, not Eight.

As for the price I don't think that's always a bad/good indicator, I only paid £45 for my giraffe speaker stands and they are decent.

Anyway - don't knock them lights. I have about 9 of them in the garage. Granted they are :Censored: , but I do often use them.

one example is on saturday, I have an elderly wedding and they do not want loads of bright lights but do 'want the lights to move'. I took one of these to show them and they agreed they would be perfect. I often use them for older gigs and am often complimented by the fact they are not too bright. (only buy them when on offer though).

Another example is one I have mounted in the corner of my conservatory - perfect for when the kids come for a karaoke night.

TBH they are not pro standard and this post is a bit in jest, but they can come in useful.

I now see where the confusion arose, and humbly and shamefacedly issue an abject apology for my error. Sometimes you just have to put up with the ramblings of a terminally befuddled senior citizen, and make allowances. ;)

As a footnote, the only Eight lights I'd put on that stand would be Mirror Balls. (Then I wouldn't care if they fell off. :D ) It was never designed to carry eight full size lights. For twice the money I'd get

More versatile, but a pain to assemble fully from scratch. I'd use one of the cross bars rather than two. Lot easier.

I bought one of these stands last year for adding a mirror ball with the pars attached to the side arms pointing up to the mirror ball. And for this it is fine but I would not add much weight to it myself as it is mainly aluminum contruction with plastic fittings.
As for 8 effects......the T bar has 4 holes drilled in it and each of the side bars have just 1 in each but I assume if you had suitable brackets and your effects were very light it would be ok. It does go up very tall which is handy as it uses a 3 pole insert system. Hence why I bought it for a mirror ball.
