No moonflowers or type effects

Ok, so I have seen a few pictures on here recently of setups where there are no moonflower type lights being used, just par cans or scanners for example.

I'm all up for trying new stuff but lets just say I was to use 4 par cans and 4 scanners, would this give off a good enough effect?

I have an 18th coming up soon and wanted to give the impossbled a break and try some new stuff.

Just interested in your opinions. :)

I'd always have some kind of moonflower type so it added something to the dancefloor. Otherwise it's just a wash of colour and a few beams of light flying around.

By moonflower effect, i mean either something like a magic gobo or impossibled. Not just your typical halogen effect.

I no longer have any moonflowers. Most gigs I just use a few LED effects, and a few large moving heads.

I think the par cans and scanners will be more than enough.

Although I have quite a few, I rarely use moonflowers.

I must admit, I've gone right off the Impossibled led type effects effects.

Moving heads, the EFX500, lasers and pars for me.

I agree and can see the LED 'dot effects' being very short lived.

I know I have said it before but this is why I rate the Mystic LED so highly. The reason being is that it has the moving moonflower effects too. I was impressed that much that I bought two of them and one on each end of the goalpost looks great. I haven't used the LEDJ Colourbursts on the goalposts as pars as yet as I like them on the floor behind me but I may do that.

Isn't this a bit like those who say they 'go off' certain popular songs because they hear them so often, whilst they are forgetting that the people in their audience aren't at their (or any other) gig every week?

Quite possibly, but I did say 'I've gone off them', not anyone else and the look of the show is important to me too.

Moonflowers are good to fill floors.
What I think would be nice would be is 4 par can across the top of the goal post, with 2 moving heads at each end and 2 scans in side the posts. In addition, maybe a screen in the centre (with graphics/visuals) or a moonflower like a Martin destroyer (but able to turn off and not have on all night) but remember less is more. (Do not go to over crowded.)

So you say less is more.

You suggest 4 par cans, 2 scanners and 2 movers on the deck stand or truss, what ever. And as an addition a screen and a moonflower.

So thats 9 lights and a screen for a less is more approach. :confused:



That's more than I take out t most of my gigs. That most I ever take out is 6 lights due to space in the car.

I would still say 9 lighting effect is to many if your going for the simplistic, minimalistic approach.

I currently use 2 moonflower style lights as i think its always good to have some kind of lighting on the dance floor at all times.

Just a quick thought are you trying to brighten up the dance floor or the whole room (where people just want to sit, chat a drink) do they really want sharp beams of light hitting their eyes every few seconds while their not on the dance floor?

No, I am not saying nine lights is less, but it would look good IMO (not Very Minimalistic) but at the same time, less is more. With out the cans it would be "less is more”. In addition, looking nice.
