There have always been viruses for Macs, they are just not distributed as easily as with microsoft operating systems, therefore not very common.

In 15 years of mac use I have only ever come across 1 a trojan which very pretty nasty but so easily spotted

Not even slightly worried. Firewalled to death, and do any even-slightly-dodgy browsing in a VM which can be canned and rolled back anytime.

Viruses arent all bad, they taught me to back up everything regularly.

I remmeber one of the first viruses in the 1980's, it was an AIDs awareness floppy disc which deleted everything on your hard drive !

Just to be sure I installed Virus Barrier x5 after a 18 months of running a mac without virus guard. Needless to say it was virus free - if you can do that with Windows after 18 days I'd be amazed.

I use norton 360 and have never had a problem. I am online everyday and nothing.

I'm not 100% but I think it all depends on what websites you look at. Naughty websites do have stuff that can affect your pc. Even if you look for a few seconds, thats enough for them to know you ip address then they can try to send viruses ect.
