Just thought i'd make a quick post to mention my astonishment at the number of last minute Christmas enquiries I am getting.

This is my first Christmas season, and i'm already booked up each weekend in December - including two dates i'm covering for another company.

I'm getting so many enquiries with people being let down by other companies and as a result needing a disco at short notice - this doesn't really allow me sufficient time to sort out the paper work. One of them today was for a disco at a venue 50 miles away from me - people are getting desperate i think.

I suppose I shouldn't complain, should i?

is this Par for the course - or are people leaving it very late this year?

My Xmas/NYE bookings all came fairly late this year but the phone's stopped ringing now.

I was having a similar discussion with a mate from a local hire firm today.

It does seem that it's been slow & a number of short notice enquiries have started coming in. One knocked us back for the sake of £20 even though he stated we were by far the most professional in approach, paperwork etc.....

I think they're holding off in an attempt to get a cheaper rate.

won't be getting a cheaper quote for me, i'm adding money to all my normal prices to fund a new PA system - New Year is going to be a nice little earner for me - £250 for a small pub gig 5 minutes away - can set up and leave my equipment overnight, and have been promised that i don't have to DJ the last hour - they'll put music channel on the tv as a wind down.

Even cheaper than the North East - and thats saying something. Wonder what the increased charge for a normal gig will be ???

to be fair, i'm friendly with the owners and i was doing them a favour - it is a tiny tiny tiny place i'm only going to take along a couple of lightscreens and spot boxes - they aim to have 50 people in there (but i don't think there will be room for that - my lounge is bigger than that place)., so there isn't much room for Kit.

as for the normal charge - the normal going rate for a general party up here is £150 8-12 (roughly £37.50 an hour) - going up in january - if i price it any higher i wouldn't get any custom, we have a lot of bulk operator companies here who i have trouble contending with at the best of times. (of course weddings are more expensive)

i've been quoting around £200.00 for each event i'm doing leading up to Christmas

It wasn't so much the price - it was the fact that you said you wouldn't be quoting cheaper and then you say you are working NYE for £250 and it's a nice little earner.
