I had someone who was drunk blow one of my RCF ARTs on xmas eve i have tried to source a replacement unit today but had no luck.

On xmas eve. I went to the bar to get a drink and someone in the pub went behind my disco setup and started shouting down my mic and he walked infront of the speaker with the mic. I had a huge roar of feedback and its damaged the woofer. The HF still works fine. But i will be getting the driver replaced.

So im looking at another set of active speakers to use whilst my speaker gets the driver replaced in the new year.

for a backup to use i am looking at either a pair of DB Technologies Basic 400s or a pair of Warrior PSR-15s or 12's actives.

I dont want to spend anymore than £500.00 because i am going back to using the RCF as soon as they are sorted because i like them

John, why not hire a pair of cabs whilst yours are in repair?
Also, add a compressor into your signal chain to prevent recurrence of Xmas Eve!

I think the lad's of the opinion that backup would be a nice thing to have. He's already got the offer of a Class-D extended demo, with the proviso that even if he prefers them to the RCF, he's still got to give them back. :D :D

At the moment. I think im going to leave the purchasing while Monday now. Someone mentioned Soundslive in newcastle. They said that Soundslive might have the RCF speaker in their warehouse.

If they have im going to order a replacement RCF cab and get the broken one sent in to have a new woofer put in.

failing that. It will then be either a pair of Warrior PSR-12s or DB Technologies active cabs (at the moment anyway)

What I used to do if I had to leave the stage was to put the mic in my pocket and take it with me ( unless it's a wired mic :p ). Of course you hoped no one at the bar spotted it :D .

Just turn the mic right down at the mixer.
Unless they understand your setup they will have a struggle turning it up again.

RCF fouled up, there is no way that should have blown an active speaker !

Probably cheap plastic rubbish anyway.

Are you sure the speaker is fried ?

If its truly active it will have seperate amps for highs and lows.
Could have broke the amp or even both !

Those RCF speakers are brilliant and i dont care what you say Nigel. The drivers used inside those speakers are actually RCF drivers.

and not a cheap sourced driver as you probably think. Which i found out on my search for a replacement.

if you read all my posts yo uwould see I did have something positive to add.
As yet you havent answered my questions regarding whether its the speaker or the amp thats faulty !

Whats the point in a forum if you wont answer people (electronics engineer) who are trying to help ?

Quite right John. :approve: I've got a spare Class-D 15" driver and a Prosound amp, so with a comprehensive toolbox, I reckon we can lash something up. ;) :D

I hate to disillusion you Nigel, however I'm pretty certain RCF have their own R&D department that would tackle such projects, as opposed to them calling on the services of a "one mand band" carer / electronics hobbyist. Sorry to bring you down to earth with a bang, just being realistic matey.

While I try to live by this maxim, sometimes it can be difficult not to express astonishment and disdain for some of the views posted on here.

All sorted. In the end i managed to get a replacement RCF speaker. I did order a pair of the new 7 series.

But i changed my mind and cancelled the order. Because now i dont think spending nearly 2 grand on the 7 series was viable. I managed to get a replacement speaker on what i already have. Just had it delivered this morning.

Backup kit's a bit stretched, as I'm on emergency callout for Justin tonight, who's five miles down the road from me. :D ( He thinks it's an easy load in tonight. ;) Bet they've put loads of tables and streamers in his way. ;) ;) ;) And it's a lot further to the stage than he thinks. )

Wasn't that bad really, less than I used to carry at my residency (that seems such a long time ago now - good ridance)

Why emergency callout :confused: - I trust my Class-d's all the way, never failed me yet (touches wood) :D
