mobile phone upgrades

i am with o2 and they say i can upgrade my handset on march 4th but i would like to upgrade asap last time they let me upgrade 3 months early ( had to pay some money ) but dont seem to want to let me this time.
my question is has anyone got any tips to say to them so i can upgrade early i dont mind paying a little money.
will saying you will switch to another provider work

Ring them and say you are changing to Orange or BT or whoever but you want keep your number. Trust me they'll jump and sort you out a good package.

I bet they don't. My other half tried that and they told her "ok, 30 days notice, would you like your PAK code now" And she had been with them for 14 years!

The only way to do it is to buy out your remaining contract, out of interest what are you looking at?

I'm not looking at changing, it's just that whenever I've called Orange and asked for my PAK number they've jumped and given me a good deal.

I work with a guy whose brother works in retentions for a major phone company. He told me last week that they've had their hands tied as to what they can now offer. Due to the credit crunch it would seem.

So don't bank on really good deals if you threaten to go elsewhere.

I only upgraded mine just under a month ago and got more 600 mins, 1000 texts and free data for £20/month and I was on £35/month, but paying £28.00.

I did have to buy the phone for £99 though.

Now that sounds a result. ;) Spring next year will see negotiations commence here.

Depends on your spend.

If you are topping up more than £10 twice a month or more on PAYG many companies will try and keep you, if you are on a contract or a bundle and don't default your payments/Direct Debits companies will try and keep you, if you have more than one active phone under your name almost regardless of the spend most companies will try and keep you. Bear in mind that to take your phone with you from your existing provider you will probably have to unlock your phone, the fee for which is pure profit for them and often equivalent to six months profit on service providing for you (getting it unlocked at the local market is risky and against warranty conditions).

Shop around but be prepared to switch providers, make sure your new provider ponies up with a good phone at a good price depending on whether you go contract or PAYG and PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) your number across to your new provider (free).

If one of your reasons for switching is coverage make sure you know who your provider uses to supply coverage - all suppliers rely on 3, O2, Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile to provide coverage (for example Virgin, who I work for, use T-Mobile), 3 only supply 3G coverage and rely on O2 (I think) for voice (2 & 2.5G).

As staff at Virgin I just got a Sony Ericsson W595 for £45-ish and will be setting up a staff (half price) bundle soon :D

Oh, and if you have a Virgin Media package (Phone, Broadband, TV) ask them about special offers on Virgin mobile phones ;)

The contract is up in March but he doesn't want to wait but his operator won't upgrade him even for a fee. The only way out whilst in contract is to buy out the remaining.

Some High Street stores will offer to buy your contract out for you to get you onto a new contract as it's worth it to them for their commission (anywhere between £300 and £750 per contract!), just make sure you know who you want your contract to be with so they don't sell you into whoever is offering the best commission at the time.
