Hi there everyone.

Iv just been reading a few reviews about banners! for a while back on this forum.I just wanted to know did anyone finaly find a good banner company! because i want to get a banner for the front of my disco.

Also im not very good at artwork designing' so if there any advise out there that could help me with some ideas of artwork for the my disco.

Maybe some of you guys could put your banner pictures on here! so i could get a rough idea on sizes. I want a nice size banner to go across the front of my disco.

Any help would be very appreciated thank you

Fantasy Prints is a local one near me but post as well. They do all the printing for Haven holidays Butlins and that. So are good.

Here are some pics of my two disco banners and my magic box – all done using the logo creator software.

Before anyone says how rubbish the set up is… I know, the lights have been changed, no wires now showing and I have a nice star cloth back drop. I will get round to taking some pictures one day. ;)

I dont have a banner as my personal opinion is that your not there to shout your advertising at someone elses wedding/function (i think its different for a childrens set up. i.e. Milo). Seem to remember a similar thread coming up a while back and the cam pas split :) . I have been known to do the odd charity function where they are more than happy to advertise you so i put cards in the centre of the tables usually. That said, around me (Workington, Cumbria) there is a company called Artifax which are top notch (and do post out). I cant remember their phone number and their website (www.artifax.co.uk) is currently undergoing a revamp so isnt much use.

There are a few different logo software packages out there, I used the following one: http://www.laughingbirdsoftware.com/products/the-logo-creator.html you can download a free trial, but I bought the entertainment package to do mine. There is also a form for help and support.

I’ve only been doing discos since July so my cheap set up was just to do the two hour kids party and only 1 hour of that is a disco. My first adult disco was last month when I joined this forum and now I’m starting to learn a bit more about how the pros do it.

I’m going to take your light boxes off your hands next week if their still available! ;)

I’ve taken over the lease on a bar in Margate with a big dance floor in the basement, so I’m going to buy a new sound system for in there and use this stuff purely for kids parties…… Unless anyone wants to buy it? :)

not knocking the Prosound stuff - I'm using it at the moment, but you get what you pay for don't you.. i love the ear peircing high end and the rumbly mids. actually for what you are doing, short sets for kids, i think you can't go wrong with the Prosound as a starter PA.

Anyway, back on track - do you not find the banners tend to look a wee bit Tacky? i know it is invaluable for advertising, but is a star cloth or something similar not better?

I agree.

At weddings I've never seen a banner or sign on the cake advertising the company that made it, I've never seen banners on the flowers and I've never seen a banner or sign advertising the photographer, video guy or toastmaster...so I'm a bit confused why some mobile discos think it's ok for THEM to advertise themselves in this way.

There again, maybe I'm missing something...which is quite possible!

I have a 3M x 2M star cloth back drop, which looks the dogs once the ImposibLEDs are up and the speakers are on stands etc.

Almost all of my bookings come in from people who have seen me at parties and asked for a card or taken down my website/phone number so the banners have done me well….. That being said, if I were doing pubs, clubs, weddings etc (like you lot) I would probably get a small star cloth for the front, in fact I might get one in January as I do want to start doing weddings next year.

For what you would get for it I would reccomend keeping as backup.

Of course, you don't have to have your name plastered all over a vinyl banner, you can just have a tasteful design printed on it. The advantage of the banner over a cloth is that it doesn't get creased to hell in transit

Banners like any other frontage can be good and bad, it all depends how far you go.
IMO a mat black banner with name/logo on and nothing ells can look very classy when hung correctly, if just wrapped around like a star-cloth they again can look a mess as with any frontage.

No they don't, but a banner is a pretty poor excuse as a method of hiding cables, as there are plenty of better ways, such as a carpet-covered MDF surround like mine, a starcloth or a booth.

That's true, and as long as you don't go as far as actually GETTING ONE, I don't see a problem! :p

I don't think there's a problem with using a banner. I used one for years and years and it never did my business any harm. In fact people remembered my logo because of it.
