View Full Version : Equipment Insurance (not PLI)

Hello

I've currently got a policy with Musicguard (yep, i know i'm an idiot) and one of my new years resolutions is to get and stay organised for the rest of my life.

So as my policy is due for renewal in October, i thought i would start the ball rolling now and put some info with my current policy for when i renew.

I used musicguard for a few years now, but one of the clauses that plays on my mind a little too much is their clause which states that if the equipment is left in a trailer (which my gear lives in) is stolen, they will only payout if the vehicle it is attached to is stolen at the same time.

Are there any better policies out there i should consider?

The cheapest policy is to put the gear in your house/garage.

I wouldnt leave mine in a trailer or van overnight.
Its a temptation to thieves to not only take the gear but the vehicle too.

Mine is.

Anyway the equipment is safer and in a better environment in the house.

Only if specially agreed in writing and written into the Home Policy by endorsement.

"Business" equipment will not be covered ---only domestic contents.

Unless the Insurance Companies have become registered charities since I worked in the business.

I miust have missed that ;)

I believe E and L offer equipment cover, not sure how good it is these days, I used to be covered with them many years ago.

I would have thought Musicguard were a reasonable Company to get insured with ( im with them) and if they exclude anything then its a warning to you that its something you should not be doing because they consider it to be very likely to be a source of a large number of incidents.

Why do they exclude loss of data on the Insurance Policy I have on my Laptop etc.

If you can get wider cover for your equipment good luck--just read the small print

Correct. This is if you actually tell them you run a business.

A hobby is a business if you get paid for it ---

As far as Insurance Companies and the Inland Rev are concerned.
